HOORAY It’s finally Friday . . .
Hey everybody. So glad you stopped by today. Freedom Friday is when I bi-weekly let you in on how we’re doing with our pursuit of paying off debt. I’m hoping that many of you will also e-mail me with your story (with either “Freedom in Progress” or “Freedom Achieved” in the subject line) and I can share your story to encourage others, too.
Greetings fellow Debt Slayers and Conquerers. I’m pretty stoked to get to announce that we kicked Target VISA to the curb last week. It was the next to last debt in our snow ball which means that big ‘ole ball is rolling down the hill and picking up speed. It’s careening toward a lonely Sallie Mae but she’s a sturdy and rather large gal so it’s going to take awhile to knock her out. That being said, the King calculated where we started (April 08) and how far we’ve come in less than 2 years. By his estimations, we’re a full 31 months ahead of schedule. UN-stinking-REAL. We’re pinching ourselves with pure joy.
And I’m also very happy to announce that we’ve already saved enough money to pay cash and visit Great Wolf Lodge with the Princesses to celebrate NO MORE CREDIT CARDS FOREVER. “We’re Going to the Lodge.” Such a catchy theme song, right?
It will be the first vacation we’ve taken since starting our journey out of debt. 🙂 We are thrilled. Now to find the best deal, figure out the best date to visit, and get that bad boy booked. If anyone has Great Wolf tips and suggestions PLEASE comment. We’ve never been before and I want to make the most of the experience! I’ve been surfing their Ask-a-Mom Page (what a great resource Great Wolf!) and following them on Twitter to start wrapping my head around it. On the flip side, part of me is having a very hard time letting go of cash that could go toward the snowball. When you’re used to paying every penny you can scrounge toward debt, it becomes hard to let go of the cold hard cash for a luxury. It’s funny because I never felt that way when I used the credit card.
Speaking of credit cards, in a couple of weeks on Freedom Friday, I’ll share a bit more of the tale that is how the Target VISA grew from a small pet into a beast that nearly ate us alive and is now a carcass in the backyard with a big debt slaying sword in its side. Next week, I’m VERY excited as Lady Heather shares her family’s Freedom in Progress story. It’s another inspiring journey!
Don’t forget that I want to hear from you and give you a chance to share your story, too! E-mail me with either “Freedom in Progress” or “Freedom Achieved” in the subject line. I’ve been getting great responses from other Money Saving Lords and Ladies who are taking GREAT encouragement away from your stories (Thanks Ladies Amber and Kelly! You ARE inspirational). We’re better, stronger, and more focused together. Join the fray and tell your debt slaying tale.
