Hear ye, hear ye, Money Saving Lords and Ladies! It’s Freedom Friday where I bi-weekly share our progress in becoming completely debt free. It’s also your turn to share your story of debt slaying. Whether you’ve paid off every cent you owe, are just getting started, or live somewhere in the in between, we want to hear from you! We’re better together, share your story and make us all stronger.
Greetings Money Saving Lords and Ladies. I’m kind of giggling at the bi-weekly portion of my introduction since it’s been a very, very long time since I’ve given you an update on where we are with our debt snowball and how things are going.
The reasons are multi-faceted but mainly boil down to the fact that I felt like I was repeating myself. Yep, we’ve been endeavoring to slay our last debt – the Evil Sorceress Sallie Mae – for over a year now. Yep, we’ve made much progress. Yep, we’ve still got a ways to go. Rinse. Repeat.
As far as numbers go, they’ve continued to climb. I occasionally share them on the Court of the Queen of Free on Facebook and on Twitter. But it’s been awhile since I’ve published ’em on here.
$96,427.44 paid off since April 2, 2008.
Ridiculous right? The King of Free totaled things the other day and deduced that we could have purchased enough flat screen tvs to cover an entire football field with that much money. Wow. Seriously, we could have bought a couple of luxury cars or a house – a small one sure but a nice one. All with flat out cash saved over time.
We’re cranking toward the $100K mark which simply blows my mind. And we’re starting think about a timeline to the finish line. One measured in months instead of years. Unfathomable.
And here’s the thing. We started with an extra $100 per month to put toward debt in April of 2008. Our anticipated finish? 14 stinking years. Three years and 6 days later, we’re looking at hopefully being finished by this time next year or perhaps May (or who knows, maybe sooner depending on what God brings our direction). That is beyond belief.
We are blessed.
