Eating fried chicken with waffles is a new passion for me. There’s just something about the collision of sweet savory that makes my tastebuds sing. So when I saw this recipe for an egg casserole that featured these two seeming opposites, I had to bite. I tinkered with the recipe a bit (because I can’t help myself) and came up with my own Chicken and Waffles Breakfast Casserole. By the way, if you use Chick-fil-A nuggets with this recipe, you won’t be sorry! A Chick-fil-A Breakfast casserole brings Chicken and Waffles to a whole new level.

A Few Notes:
I picked my bag of chicken at ALDI and really only needed about half of the bag to make a full casserole. I toasted the frozen waffles in the oven while cooking the chicken, flipping both about ten minutes through to make sure both sides were golden brown. The waffles were easy to crumble by hand so I didn’t even have to bust out my cutting skills. The nuggets also tore easily. Topping the casserole with syrup really pulls the dish together.
The Verdict
This one was our favorite and probably new family tradition. While the ALDI chicken will work in a pinch, it has a pretty peppery flavor to it. I’m looking forward to making this with Chick-fil-A nuggets instead to have a sweeter flavor.
