What Do You Do Wednesday: Goal Setting

Tips like these helped us pay off $127K in debt. You can read our story in Slaying the Debt Dragon: How One Family Conquered Their Money Monster and Found an Inspired Happily Ever After.

We’re big believers in setting goals here in the Queendom.  In fact, we wouldn’t have paid off $102,653.96 since April of 2008 if we didn’t believe in lofty goals.  But sometimes even a Queen needs a little extra motivation to help get her through a rough patch.  So I’ve been working on a list of goals for this summer!  I’ve already done a few (posts to come eventually) but there are several I’d love your advice/suggestions to achieve!

  • Make my own laundry detergent.
  • Make a large batch of granola to snack on all summer long.
  • Make and freeze pizza dough and black beans to help with summer meals.
  • Grow more fresh veggies and herbs in our square foot garden.
  • Make homemade popsicles with the Princesses (recipes, please!).
  • Get our home ready for an appraisal for a ReFi (lots of small projects).
  • Ride the RAIN ride (156 miles in one day on a bike) for the 4th time!  Glad I mentioned that because today’s the deadline to register without a late fee.
  • Make Sun Tea for the first time.
  • Read 3 books, 2 non-fiction, 1 fiction.  Looking for a non-fiction title.  I’m reading this and this already.
  • Help the Eldest Princess celebrate her 9th birthday with a Fiesta theme on the cheap (ideas?).
  • Go to merge camp (5th/6th grade) and Camp Kynigo (1st-5th grade) with our church.
  • Volunteer for the Youngest Princess’ VBS (while the VBS hasn’t happened, our volunteering took place last night).
  • Go to a Circle City Roller Derby Girls’ bout.
  • Begin training for a marathon.  I’ve talked about it.  I’ve convinced myself I could and couldn’t do it.  I need to pick a date and anchor into the idea.  It’s the next unreachable goal I want to conquer within the next year.
  • Be more intentional about encouraging some of the college students that I’ve built relationships with over the past couple of years.
  • Play outside.
  • Keep my kitchen clean (this could be the impossible dream) all. summer. long.
I feel like goals should be both challenging and attainable.  And they should involve personal fulfillment and investing in others.  And they should have some sort of end game in sight.  I easily grow weary of chasing after a goal if I feel there is no true point of completion.
What are some of your summer goals?  How do you set and stick to your goals?

The week is off to a gorgeous start in the Queendom.  No air conditioner running, just open windows with the perfect breeze.  We’re in the process of applying for a refi on our mortgage which will require a walk through appraisal which means LOTS of odds and ends jobs.  So I’ll be busy cleaning and sorting and organizing over the next two weeks (which will be worthwhile whether we land the refi or not).

I’m keeping the kitchen clean and being intentional with our meal plan and grocery budget!

Monday: Leftovers from Sunday’s dinner
BBQ Pork Sandwiches and/or Turkey Burgers
               Black Beans
               Apple Cole Slaw
               French Fries
               Sliced Strawberries

Tuesday: Grilled Chicken on Spinach Salad
                Toast with Olive Oil
                Grilled Peaches

Wednesday:  Grilled Chicken Salad (made with the chicken from the day before)
                      with Almonds and Red Grapes
                      on Whole Wheat Toast

Thursday:  Turkey Dogs
                  Sweet Potato Fries
                  Green Beans
                  Watermelon

Friday:  Grilled Shrimp
             Salad
             Veggie Kabobs
             Brown Rice

Saturday:  Lunch: Leftovers, PBJ
                 Dinner: Turkey Pepperoni Pizza
                               Salad
                               Homemade Popsicles

Sunday:  Pulled Pork
               Cole Slaw
               Grilled Corn on the Cob
               Sliced Strawberries

What’s for dinner on your Royal Table this week?  Has meal planning gotten easier or or more difficult as the summer months roll along?  Don’t forget you can use this tool to help you keep track of your lists and meal plan!
