I’m so thankful for the ways the King of Free leads our family! |
Dear ‘ole dad really isn’t that hard to please in most cases. I love the post that Lady Jen wrote earlier tis year on What Your Husband REALLY Wants for Valentine’s Day (might surprise you) which I think rings true for Father’s Day too. Here are three things I’d suggest for you to do this Sunday celebrate the special daddy or baby daddy in your life.
1) Write him a letter of encouragement. Everyone needs encouragement. They need to know what they’re doing makes a difference. Everyone needs to know they matter. I love me some Hallmark but heartfelt words (even if they’re inside a purchased card) cost less and have more value. Don’t just say I love you, list ways you respect him, too.
2) Help the kids create a message of appreciation. Let’s think outside of the box on this one. I love the Volvo commercial right now where the “dad” writes the mileage of the car in the driveway with sidewalk chalk. Wouldn’t it be great if your husband/father stepped outside the door early on Sunday AM to see a Father’s Day greeting on the drive? Or shoot a video and post it on his Facebook Wall or go all old school with the crayons and construction paper.
3) Fix a favorite meal. It’s always been said that a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. A very cheesy and cliche sentiment but if your special guy has a favorite dish du jour, plan on making it this weekend. The King of Free doesn’t have too many favorites that aren’t sweets and he’s abstaining from those right now but I’m sure I’ll figure something out!
It’s easy to feel flustered and overwhelmed when it comes to holidays like Father’s Day. And it’s hard to remember to budget or make your budget stretch far enough when it comes to summer holidays. Because we’re still “Giving Up Gifts” until we’re debt free, I feel somewhat off the hook when it comes to this holiday. However, I do plan on spending the day doing just about whatever the King of Free would like to do (which I’m guessing involves cleaning and yard work).
