Greetings Money Saving and Fitness Pursuing Lords and Ladies! I thought I’d give you a little update on my progress with getting Buff on a Budget. Like I mentioned before, I’ve managed to slowly lose close to 25 pounds this year without a personal trainer, weight loss program, or fancy gym membership. I’ve done a lot of Wii Fit, some strength training at home, plenty of biking, running, and walking, and recently we did purchase a $100/year membership for the entire family at a local church’s fitness center.
Right now in the world of all things Free and Fitness, I’m crushing on a particular Android App that I *lurve.* The good people at Verizon Wireless (here’s looking at you Lady Kyle, Sir James, and the ever-so-sweet Lady Michelle) have lent me a Droid Incredible once again and I’m downright addicted to Cardio Trainer. It’s a free app that tracks your mileage, maps your route, totals your calories, calculates your rate/speed, and compiles all of your workouts so you can see a history of how many hours you’ve worked out, the total mileage, etc. over time. PLUS the best part about it is that it talks to me while I’m running or walking, letting me know every 0.3 of a mile how far I’ve gone/my speed/calories burned – all while I’m listening to my favorite tunes via headphones. BRILLIANT, I say. Oh and at the end of the workout, it tells me how many fruits and/or veggies my workout was worth (I always wanted to burn enough cals to eat 5 Oranges in one day 😉 ). Plus it automatically integrates with your social media and posts when you complete a workout.
Did I mention it was free? C’mon now. But I do believe it’s an Adroid Only App (correct me if I’m wrong). It does even more that I’ve messed with yet, too – like letting you set goals (time, distance, or calorie related), counting your calories and tracking your food intake, and more!
I am on the fence on whether or not to run the Monumental Mini Marathon on November 6th. The registration is $50 and while I’ll have some birthday money (thanks Mama!), I really need a few other things more right now than the race fee. So perhaps I’ll save my pennies to just do the Mini in May and do some smaller 5K events for now. Decisions, decisions. At any rate, I can run 13.1 miles on my own that day even if I’m not there, right?
Speaking of 5Ks, there’s a great one in the Indianapolis area on October 30th for only $5! It’s sponsored by the NFL Play 60 organization and has a focus on women’s fashion, too. Sounds like a perfect girls’ morning! Check out my post on Indy’s Queen of Free today all about it.
What FREE apps do you use to keep in shape? I’ve used Run Keeper and heard great things about Daily Mile.
