Please excuse the formalities. This is a review post. I received a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with 4G LTE for a month to play with and enjoy from Verizon Wireless in association with Kyle Communications (holla Lady Michelle, Lady Kyle, and Sir James). I did not keep this item. I did not receive any money for this review. It was not edited by Verizon Wireless or Kyle Communications, or the Eldest Princess. I always give you my honest opinions when I review any item, that’s a Royal Guarantee. Hello friends from the FTC, can I get on to talking to the Money Saving Lords and Ladies in the Court of the Queen of Free now?
Let’s face it. A day is coming. For some of you Money Saving Lords and Ladies, it might already be here. We’re on the cusp of it here in the Queendom. That’s right, it’s inevitable. The Eldest Princess will not only soon have bigger feet and grow taller than me. She’s also quickly headed toward being smarter than me, too.
4th Grade has brought a lot of changes – she raked in a perfect performance at the Spellbowl Competition a couple of weeks ago and recently made the Math Bowl team {yep, I’m a proud mama}. Her vocabulary has increased and her science knowledge is growing. And this year, she has my most favorite of all classes – Indiana History! With her abilities and knowledge base growing, I’m always looking to resource her with technology to fill in my gaps of knowledge.
So when Verizon asked me to test the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with 4G LTE, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to test out some FREE Homework Apps that would both enrich her learning and be fun, too. Here are a few of my favs!
- Dictionary.com got a great workout when we were defining words for Spellbowl. And we LOVED the word of the day feature.
- Miss Spell’s Class is another great Spelling App for advanced spellers. Although, the Eldest Princess really enjoyed using the site SpellingCity most with its interface with her classroom teacher and Spellbowl coach.
- While she is just learning to use her paper planner this year, there were plenty of FREE time and assignment management tools available in the Android App Market. I LOVE that the Android App Market has recently allowed you to filter your searches. While testing the Galaxy Tab 10.1, I didn’t realize you could monitor the safety search levels and we stumbled unto some inappropriate apps while searching “Homework” in the App Market. Be sure if you have little eyes nearby to monitor the “Safe Search” option. Learn from my mistake. 🙂
- While they weren’t at all helpful for homework, we LOVED playing with “The Moron Test” {Sections 1 & 2} because of the tricky logic and quick thinking they tested. I know it totally sounds offensive in some ways {we generally don’t use the word moron in our house}.
- I super LOVED the FREE Kindle App. I read a good portion of the book Jane Eyre on the Tab and realized just how often I’d probably read more {especially with Amazon’s large collection of FREE books available for Kindle Apps}.
The Galaxy Tab didn’t disappoint {especially in its speed and ease of use}, but not unlike last time it’s still a Sears’ Wishbook dream toy in my eyes {even when it’s used to help with homework}. Of course that doesn’t mean we didn’t love every second {both little kids and big} of playing our temporary toy.
