Awkward Teenage Years of Marriage?

Tips like these helped us pay off $127K in debt. You can read our story in Slaying the Debt Dragon: How One Family Conquered Their Money Monster and Found an Inspired Happily Ever After.

July 17, 2012 By Cherie Lowe

Look at those kids.  Can you believe they let us get married when we were mere children?
Ok so we were 22 and 23 but whoowhee, we’ve had some mileage over the years.

13 years ago, I donned a white gown and walked down a long aisle.  I had more bridesmaids than you could shake a stick at but all I could see was a handsome tall boy who had captured my heart ~ 1 year prior.

Here we are now.  In the past 13 years, there has been laughter so hard that I thought I would split my side or perhaps wet my pants {I’m not telling, so don’t ask.}.  There have been tears of change, loss, and injustice.  There have been tears over victory, too though.  This year, one particular moment comes to mind.

I wrote last year about our relationship entering its awkward teenage years.  The truth is, marriage is work, y’all.  It’s not a happily ever after where everyone poops glitter and sneezes Hershey kisses.  Sorry mom, I know I got a little crude there.

You have to stand back to back and battle all sorts of foes.

You have to keep Kay at bay, because she is such a little *beep*.  Again, sorry mom but at least I did censor myself.

You have to have to grow guts, both to pay off debt and to be married.

You have to learn to how to both lead and be led {still one of my favorite posts ever}.

You have to kill that debt dragon before it destroys your marriage.

May the next 13 years with the King of Free be even more awesome than the first.  Which honestly will be pretty darn hard to top, especially after this year.

I love you, BLowe.
