Don't just hide or scramble your eggs. Check out these 7 Amazing and Creative Things You Can Do with Eggs! I bet you never would have thought of #5!

At Easter or any time of the year, eggs are an incredibly affordable food. Plus, eggs have a versatility to appear at any meal throughout the day or enhance side dishes and desserts, too. Today, I thought it would be fun to talk about some of the amazing out-of-the-box things you can do with eggs and their by-products. You can take advantage of those great deals in the grocery store this week on eggs AND use them for great uses! By the way, don’t miss Easy Easter Egg Ideas PLUS 3 Can’t Miss Ways to Save Money This Easter if you haven’t already read it.

Make an Omelet in Your Waffle Iron

Obviously there are all sort of amazing ways to prepare an egg to eat, but my favorite right now is making an easy and quick omelet in the waffle iron. Simply, preheat your waffle iron, scramble the eggs together in a cup, and then pour into the iron evenly. Two eggs fit perfectly in our standard sized waffle iron. Quickly top with cheese, veggies, or meats and then cook on Medium Low eat, peeking every once in a while to make sure it doesn’t burn. Remove with a non-stick spatula and enjoy!

Compost Egg Shells and Cartons

Both the shells and the container (if you purchase eggs in a biodegradable cardboard container), can be composted to enhance your garden or flower beds. Uncooked egg shells can be placed directly in with plants, too. The minerals and nutrients enrich the soil as the shell breaks down.

Use the Hardboiled Egg Water for Plants

Believe it or not, even the water that you boil your eggs in can be used to water your plants. Let the water completely cool (you don’t want to boil your green, leafy friends) and then carefully water your plants to pass on that nutrient rich water to their roots! By the way, have you seen this video where you can actually “boil” eggs in a muffin tin in your oven? Simply place them in individual muffin tins and then bake at 325 for 30 minutes (you don’t even need water!). Then plunge them into ice water to be able to simply remove the shells! By the way, plunging them into ice water is a great idea if you cook them in the traditional method, too.

Egg-tra Special Science Experiments

There are a host of amazing science experiments that you and your kids can do with eggs – both raw and hard boiled. From making them float in water to testing the strength of the shell, there is so much to learn an do to amaze your children. My favorite is this nifty trick with a glass bottle, a match, and a hard boiled egg. It’s an amazing lesson in air pressure!

Start Seedlings in the Shells

If you’re careful about how you crack your eggs, you can use the shell to start seeds for your garden inside your house. I love this simple tutorial on how to most effectively do this. The best part is that when the seedlings have grown strong and ready to be transplanted, you can put them out directly into the garden.

Use Egg Whites in Beauty Masks

People have been using the powerful proteins in eggs for the purpose of beauty treatments for years. There are number of great recipes online to create your own facial mask with egg whites. My favorite is super simple and includes 1 egg white, 1 tsp. of lemon juice, and 1/2 tsp. of honey. Whisk together the egg white and lemon juice until frothy and then stir in the honey. Wash your face with warm water and then apply the mask for 10-15 minutes before washing it off.

Pest Deterrent

Want to keep undesirable pests like slugs and snails out of your flower and garden beds? Simply crush egg shells and create a perimeter around your plants. The jagged edges will keep the soft bodied pests from crossing your barrier and from gobbling up your beautiful plants.

I’ve read that eggs and egg products can be used to clean leather, create a temporary bandaid, make paint and sidewalk chalk, and even make your own glue! There’s so much you can do with one simple household item.
