Greetings Money Saving Lords and Ladies. It’s yet again Friday here in the Queendom and I thought I’d give you a bit of an update on the state of our affairs as we strive toward freedom.
It’s odd really. We are so close to our goal, to our journey beginning a new phase. And yet, there are days when it is so incredibly discouraging and feels even more distant.
We’ve paid off $110,936 since April of 2008 {now taking up a collection for 64 measly dollars to get us over $111K}. Lordwilling, we’ll be debt free in about 7 months, a time period I can scarcely wrap my head around.
Even so, it seemed much easier when being debt free was a goal far away and not less than a year.
In the past couple of weeks, we have had a couple of unexpected expenses in the form of two doctors’ appointments and school pictures {aka highway robbery which I got away with spending the minimum of $18}. And probably most comically of all, our mailbox was hit by a passerby and landed in our front yard. Currently, I have it rigged upon the stand with two bungee cords. And of course, there’s the fact that our sad bath towels are so raggedy.
I feel like I should start a comedy tour that has the tag line, “You might be gazelle about paying off debt if . . .”
Although every comical ragtag possession is a possession all the same and while we’re paying off debt, it becomes a banner or reminder of how far we’ve come and where we’re going.
Currently, we are most looking forward to escaping reality and heading to Disney World in about 27 days. The Queen Mum and the King Pops are blessing us with a trip for Christmas and in celebration of the King Pops’ retirement. And we are ever SO thankful. We haven’t had a true vacation since we began our journey to becoming debt free. We’ve had a couple of weekend trips but no true
