I am very happy to report that we had a fabulous time celebrating paying off our credit card debt (even though that happened in February and we’re just now getting around to it) by going to Great Wolf Lodge. It was the very first vacation we have taken as a family since the Youngest Princess was born in March 2008. It was also the very first vacation that we paid 100% cash. It was also the first vacation that we budgeted specific numbers, used cash for our food, souvenirs, and extras. And oh yeah, we came in UNDER budget.
There was no vacation remorse. There was no, “Oh crap, I should check the bank account before we make that purchase.” There was no cheating the grocery budget the next week to make up for the difference in overspending.
Instead, there was relaxation. There was fun. There was joy. There were smiles. There was unscheduled time. There was sleep. There were yummy treats. There was peace.
Next week, I’ll try to post some money saving tips when it comes to planning a trip to Great Wolf. I learned several things that I think will help you if you choose to vacation there, too. Just promise me you’ll budget, use cash, and spend wisely. We’ll all feel much better.
In our debt slaying journey, the wheels are still turning and we passed another milestone this week as we knocked another $1500 off our debt. I’m still anticipating our full pay off to be 18 months – 2 years away.
