Ways to Save: Make Your Trip to Dollar Trip More Affordable

So it’s probably a hilarious post to most, but I’m always seeking how to literally stretch a dollar. In the geographical Queendom, we have a “Dollar” Theater. It’s technically more than a dollar/ticket now and we still rarely go, but when we do go, I have a few strategies to stretch our dollar even further.  In case you’re wondering, yes I can’t help but sneak in my own snacks and drinks. I know. I’m a horrible human being. Love me or leave me, yo. It doesn’t even make my list of tips though.

1) Discount Days. Some theaters have Discount Days where the price of a ticket is cheaper for 3 or more people. For our theatre, ticket prices drop on Mondays to $1 for Families. They also offer cheaper tickets for Seniors, Military, Students, and more. Contact your box office to see what the price breaks are and plan your entertainment around discount days. A discount on an already discounted movie? Awesome.

2) E-mail Coupons. Weekly, I receive an e-mail with a coupon good at our theater’s concession stand. Cheap movie+cheap snacks = happy me. Typically, it’s a BOGO coupon of some variety and changes week to week.

3) App. Yep, there’s an app for our discount theater. Ironically, I had the app but didn’t know much about it until I started writing this post (other than checking listings).  The Cinemark Theatres – Cinemark USA App actually rewards you for being courteous with your phone while watching the movie. Put your phone in CineMode and it will give you rewards for being quiet with your mobile device. How cool is that?! Plus coupons are stored on it too for concessions. Seriously? Awesome. And of course it’s free.

4) Disney Movie Rewards. Yep, you still get the same amount of rewards credit for tickets even if they were bought on the cheap. Don’t forget to snap a photo and submit it when you see a Disney flick for a dollar. Directions are found here.

Are you a snack sneaker? Or do you skip the movies altogether? How do you keep entertainment costs low and entertainment value high?

Snack sneaker all the way! A former roommate of mine and myself even had “snack sneak levels,” based on the amount of danger of the snack we were bringing in. For example, Level 1 was stuff you could get at the theater, such as boxed candy. Level 10 was attempting to sneak your leftovers from dinner in.

Hilarious! Excuse me, I’m going to heat up this porkchop. Definitely a Level 10.

Snack sneaker here too. I used to work at the movie theater, and I have to say, that unless someone was bringing in a pizza box, no one cared 🙂

Whew, I feel absolved. 😉 Off to pop our own popcorn.
