The Hobbit We’re inching through this book ~ a chapter a night {depending on homework & evening activities} with Princess Eldest {age 10}. I cannot even describe the joy it brings me to share one of my favorite books with my oldest daughter. We’re a little over halfway through and are hoping to see the movie when it hits the discount theater after we complete its reading. Its a true adventure with powerful metaphor and delightful imagery. I have to admit that I got all up on the Gollum lines, my preciousssssss.
It’s Not Funny, I’ve Lost My Money! It’s a sing-song quick read rhyming book that I read to Princess Youngest {age 4} right before nap today. We LOVE this updated parable of the Widow’s mite {coin}. Honestly this book was one of my main inspirations for our debt free party. The fact that the widow called together her neighbors and friends to celebration discovering her lost coin was why we chose to gather together those who had followed our journey and celebrate our found financial peace. Not only are there spiritual metaphors for God treasuring our lives, but there are simple lessons of gratitude for what you have and keeping it well protected.
The Story for Little Ones: Discover the Bible in Pictures (Story, The) and The Story: Teen Edition: The Bible as One Continuing Story of God and His People are new reads for the new year for the entire family. With our community group, we’re endeavoring to study The Story, NIV: The Bible as One Continuing Story of God and His People during 30+ weeks of 2013. I can’t wait to begin this journey next week. We went ahead and dove into The Story for Little Ones with Princess Youngest January 1 and we’re all loving reading a chapter nightly.
What are you reading to your little princes and princesses right now? What should be on our reading list next?
