From All You: Uses for Baking Soda

Tips like these helped us pay off $127K in debt. You can read our story in Slaying the Debt Dragon: How One Family Conquered Their Money Monster and Found an Inspired Happily Ever After.

April 4, 2009 By Cherie Lowe

So by now, if you follow me at all, you know that I LOVE the magazine All You .  They don’t pay me to say so, I simply just love this stinking magazine.  It’s filled with tips that scream the Queen’s name and attitude about life and the world.  This month (April) had an article about living more green around your home.  There’s a quick insert with 20 uses for Baking Soda.  I *heart* baking soda almost as much as I *heart* All You.  Here are 6 of my favorite uses (that I was unaware of) from the article on page 124.

  • Polish jewelry with a paste made of water and baking soda.  It’s safe on both silver and gold.  I tried this on my wedding ring and it looks fantastic!
  • Discourage weeds by sprinkling baking soda in the cracks on your driveway and walkways.
  • Have heartburn?  Create an antacid by mixing 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda with 1/2 cup of water.
  • Clean the dishwasher and coffeemaker by running an empty cycle with baking soda.
  • Pour 1 cup baking soda followed by 1 cup hot vinegar to quickly unclog the kitchen drain.
  • Fight dandruff by tabling the shampoo for a few weeks and massaging your wet scalp with a handful of baking soda instead.
