It’s time to get serious about shopping for dear ‘ole dad! With less than a week until his special day, these creative and affordable Father’s Day gift ideas and shopping strategies are sure to spark a few ideas for any dad.
Skip the Fancy Wrapping
Spoiler alert: most dads don’t care about the gift bag. If you have a present to give your dad this year, consider opting for a more practical wrapping or nixing it all together. Toolboxes, oil pans, tackle boxes, or even a backpack might be a better fit. Or you could consider wrapping a larger gift in newspaper or even with brown kraft paper. The kids could even use markers, stickers, or stamps to decorate those surfaces.
Gift Card Deals
Father’s Day marks the close of many gift card deals popular restaurants offer during Mother’s Day/Father’s Day/Graduation season. Be sure if you’re going to take advantage of these deals that you get out there and make your purchases before the end of the week. I’m a big fan of buying gift cards under face value at Sam’s Club or Costco any time of the year. Other popular offerings include:

Tackle a Project Together
Some dads could care less about a new tie or tool, what they’d really love is to work together as a family. This week, ask your dad how you might be able to best help him around home. By the way, one of the most powerful questions you can ask anyone is “What can I do to help?” Be prepared to put on your work gloves and do those less than desirable chores either for or with dad this year.
Fill the Fridge With His Favs
Whether your dad loves steak or veggies, coffee or iced tea, every fella has a fav. Hit the grocery aisles to choose dad’s favorite snacks, proteins, ice cream, and everything in between. In the past, I’ve bought my dad an assortment of individual bottles of root beer and Dilly Bars from the DQ. When possible, purchase items with long shelf life to ensure they won’t spoil before dad gets a chance to chow down.
Spend Time Together
Maybe it’s binging a favorite show or playing a round of golf together or simply going on a walk. You can show your dad how much you care by spending some quality time together. Don’t overthink it, but be sure to choose something your dad enjoys, not your favorite pastime.

Does your dad already have everything he needs and more? You may want to consider a digital subscription this year.

Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Peacock, or CBS All Access might be a great fit and all vary in costs starting at as little as $4.99. You may consider a workout subscription or a magazine subscription (many are so affordable on Amazon) depending on dad’s passion.
