Royal Review: Mat Kearney Young Love

Tips like these helped us pay off $127K in debt. You can read our story in Slaying the Debt Dragon: How One Family Conquered Their Money Monster and Found an Inspired Happily Ever After.

September 9, 2011 By Cherie Lowe

Hear ye, hear ye Money Saving Lords and Ladies.  This is a review post.  I received Mat Kearney’s newest release – Young Love – on CD from One2One Network to review.  I was not compensated for this review nor was it edited by One2One or Mat Kearney or anyone else for that matter {as you can tell by my grammar,  random commentary, and Napoleon Dynamite quotes}.  I always give you my honest opinion when reviewing products.  That’s a Royal Guarantee.

Ok kids, time for total disclosure.

As much as I hate to admit it, I’m getting older.
{pretty sure I’m going up a bracket in the age demographic classification in about a month’s time}

I rarely know what’s hip or cool anymore.
Feathers?  They’re on birds, right?
Crackle Nails?  Doesn’t nail polish that eats other nail polish frighten you?

I used to pride myself on being all up on the Indie bands, new artists, and hot trends but I can barely keep things straight these days.

It was a super fun and intimate concert!

So when I went to Blissdom this spring, and they were all “oooh Mat Kearney concert,” I was all “yep, I’ll nod my head and act cool like I know who you’re talking about” but deep down inside realize I’ll have to Google this cat later.

I was certainly not disappointed with the concert.  His music was fabu and ‘ole Mat’s not so hard on the eyes either.  Plus, he was so relaxed and conversational in concert – kind of like he was sitting in your living room {minus the stage lights}.  I was impressed.

And then I came back to Indiana, slept, and went back to being immersed in either podcasts, Glee Cast Radio Pandora, NPR, Dave Ramsey, or Radio Disney {yep, I’m pretty boring and really like listening to people talk most of the time}.

Fast forward to a month or so ago when I was listening to said Pandora station {it’s my fav} and I heard a tune come on that I didn’t recognize.

And I really liked it.
So I glanced over and noticed it was off Mat Kearney’s newest release – Young Love.

And I promptly forgot about it.  Until a couple of days later, the same scenario happened with a different song and you guessed it, same album.

Rinse, repeat, one more time.  brrring, brring, hello Cherie?  Are you paying attention?

So when One2One Network contacted me about reviewing the album a mere day later I said “Heck yes” in my best Napoleon Dynamite voice {told you I’m out of the hip and trendy circuit} and awaited the CD’s arrival.

It’s been spinning in the Royal Carriage’s CD player ever since.  In fact, I think I’ve begun to drive the King of Free a little crazy {but that’s another story for another day}.

Young Love is upbeat and a wee bit sugary, but not overly so.  It’s like lemonade that has just enough sweetness mixed with a little pop and a funky baseline {apparently I can’t mix metaphors or drinks}.  “Hey Mama,” “She Got the Honey,” and “Sooner or Later” were the songs I had caught on Pandora and still probably my favorite tracks off the release which by the way is only $4.99 on Amazon right now, WOOT.

I’m fairly stoked that Mat Kearney’s coming to Bloomington in less than a month, too.  His fall tour has so many dates and places that I’m guessing you might be able to catch show near you.

And now that I’ve lived in the now for a bit, I’ll go back to playing with my Furby while wearing my Hypercolor t-shirt {with Doc Martens} and watching a Spuds Mackenzie commercial.
