I’m preparing to shop at Meijer today, so I thought I’d share some of my favorite tips for saving money there.
mPerks: If you’re not already, you certainly want to sign up for mPerks. Simply connect your mobile phone with the account and you can digitally clip coupons. When you check out, look for the mPerks button on the touch screen, enter your phone number and pin code and all of the coupons you’ve selected automatically come off your order {if you’ve checked out with those items}. Oftentimes, there are coupons good for $2 or $5 off your shopping order. In fact, there was a $2 off your order coupon in my account this morning {yay!}. And there are coupons good on Meijer brand products, too which you’d have difficulties finding anywhere else. Plus there are rare coupons for produce, too!
Meijer mealbox: This portion of Meijer’s site allows you to scan the ads and print coupons which can be “stacked”with manufacturer’s coupon. To access the coupons, click on the widget tab that says, “Specials” and you’ll see areas to select either “Coupons” or “Custom Coupons.” When you print these coupons, as any coupons you print, I highly recommend using “recycled” paper. Obviously, don’t print any on paper that has sensitive information on the flipside but I’ve never had a problem with printing on the reverse side of previously used paper. I also print in grayscale to save ink. mealbox also has plenty of recipe suggestions and places to build your shopping list if you choose to use it.
Meijer’s Coupon Policy: Be acquainted with it if you’re a frequent shopper. You’ll see it if you scroll to the bottom of this page. Meijer doubles manufacturer coupons up to $0.50. The reserve the right to limit the number that they will double {Probably 2-3 unique coupons will be doubled, depending on your store. More than that will be taken at face value}. You can use one Meijer store coupon {accessed either via mealbox, mPerks, or Catalina coupons which print at the register} which will clearly say Store Coupon or Meijer Coupon printed on it AND one manufacturer coupon on one item. This is called stacking.
General Grocery Shopping Tips {for any store}:
- Shop the perimeter of the store. The cheaper and healthier food is located there.
- Look high and look low. Higher priced items are located at eye level.
- Put 3-5 items back before you check out. You’ll shave $5-$10 off your bill without a single coupon.
- Shop with cash. You’ll save a ridiculous amount of money compared to using plastic {even if it’s debit}.
