EEP, I have been MIA almost all week on here. My royal apologies for leaving you hanging and without reason. In many ways, it’s been a trying couple of weeks here in the Queendom. Nothing truly horrible has happened to us personally, but tragedy has surrounded many people we know and love and we’ve found ourselves standing in the gap, attempting to do what we can to help even though we’re literally dumfounded.
And then all sorts of crazy things started happening to us. A tire was flat to the rim, our truck overheated, our dryer quit working, my windshield wiper flew off as I was driving down the interstate {in the snow nonetheless} on the way to a speaking engagement, and a couple of other minor hiccups. Add to that Mathbowl, 2 conferences, and ISTEP. Plus I’ve made 2 trips to the Statehouse this week. More on that shortly.
So rather than dwell on the negative, let’s focus on some of my fun Royal highlights for this week.
On Sunday, I met and spent time with one of my favorite authors – the noble Lady Margaret Feinberg {seriously doesn’t she have a perfectly royal sounding name?}.
If you haven’t read her book – Wonderstruck then you’re missing out. It’s truly fantastic.
On Tuesday, I went to the Statehouse for The Indiana’s Family of Farmers Legislative Luncheon which was a fantastic time of hanging out with some of my favorite bloggers and an absolutely delicious experience of snacking on Food Truck deliciousness {mmmm Indiana farm fresh}. And while I was there, I happened to meet the Governor which is a rather hilarious story. Someday, I’ll share it but for now, here’s a pic.
And then yesterday, I headed back to the Statehouse to chat with Senator Brent Waltz about SB 418. This bill would increase Financial Literacy Education in Indiana Public schools. I’m very excited to be a part of the legislative process as a concerned citizen. I’m not sure exactly what my next step is but I was encouraged by the meeting I had and if you’re a Hoosier like me, know that I’m on the case and passionate about helping our students learn more about living within their means {and well}.
Last night, I recorded a few videos that are *supposed* to be on a National Talk Show next week. I’ll tell which one when when I’m 100% that they’ll air. It’s always a wee bit dicey when it comes to media. Typically, I believe it when I see it. But the videos were well received by the producers so we shall see. It’s not a live spot and it’s really not that big of a deal but it is kinda exciting for me.
Needless to say, I found solace in merely washing the dishes today. Sometimes normalcy is such a retreat for my soul. Even though I’m far from a fan of housekeeping {I left out the part of my story where I frantically cleaned the house yesterday before the Energizing Indiana Auditor came to improve our household energy bills}, somedays the mundane can rejuvenate my soul. And today was one of those days. Although you can’t really tell by the looks of the Queendom that I *was* cleaning, but oh well.
And now . . . back to the money saving tips and freebies, Lords and Ladies. We have much catching up to do now that we’re caught up. Please accept my Royal apologies for the general slackitude.
