Three Things Thursday: Three Things I’m Still Shopping For . . .

Tips like these helped us pay off $127K in debt. You can read our story in Slaying the Debt Dragon: How One Family Conquered Their Money Monster and Found an Inspired Happily Ever After.

December 9, 2010 By Cherie Lowe

While we purchase many practice needs on Black Friday, I’m not one of those all finished and wrapped by December first kind of shoppers/gift givers.  In fact, I only have the clothing portion of the Princesses’ Christmas gifts.  Luckily, having only a couple of items to purchase makes life much easier.  That being said, I am still looking for at least three things.  I do have gift cards to use so the gifts will be very close to free.  YAY!

As I was asking on Facebook last week what you are looking for on sale to complete your holiday shopping, I thought maybe you could keep your eyes peeled for my purchases, too.

1) A Bitty Baby for the Youngest Princess.  *GASP* a $45 doll?!  Purchased by the Queen of Free?!  WHAT?  First of all, keep in mind that I have reward cards that will make it free (or a minimal expense).  Secondly, it will be her only baby doll not to mention her only toy Christmas present.  She has only stuffed animals thus far.  I would much rather have 1 quality baby doll than 4-5 half naked, abused dolls.  The Eldest Princess has 1 American Girl doll and it has been well cared for because we are both more conscious of its’ value.  Granted, the Youngest Princess is 2 so I’m guessing baby will suffer a little more abuse.  Thirdly, any accessories, clothes, items purchased for the doll by us or the Princess’ grandparents will all fit.  There will be no “Which baby does this go with?” sort of conversations.  Right now, American Girl is having daily Spotlight Savings deals.  They mainly feature accessories, clothes, and books.  I’ve been checking them religiously and praying they might put Bitty Babies on sale; however, I’m doubting that will be the case.  I’m also hoping they might do some shipping offers closer to the holidays.    I want to buy this item new so I’d rather purchase it directly from the store instead of Craigslist or eBay.

2) A Digital Camera for the Eldest Princess.  It’s the only thing she’s told us she wants this Christmas.  I’d like to spend right around $50 (and again have gift card credit with which to buy it).  For this item, I’ve been trolling Amazon on a daily basis.  I know nothing about pixels, zoom, or screen display.  I want a real camera, not a toy.  And if it were a fun funky color that would be great for an 8 year old girly girl.  🙂

3) Books for both girls.  I am SO choosy about what my kids read.  I have to absolutely LOVE a book to purchase it.  Otherwise, we could merely check it out from the library.  I usually stick with classics (Anne of Green Gables, Little House on the Prairie, the Chronicles of Narnia, etc.) for the Eldest Princess (who’s around the 5th/6th grade reading level) and something colorful and creative but not too wordy for the ever-active Youngest Princess.  Got a title you want to suggest?  Leave it in the comments!

What are three things you’re shopping for still?  Are you an early or late shopper?  I’m always afraid if I purchase gifts too early, I’ll miss a great deal later.  Plus I find I actually buy less the longer I wait and think about it.
