Save Money & Slay Debt

Scratching my head in disbelief . . .

Tips like these helped us pay off $127K in debt. You can read our story in Slaying the Debt Dragon: How One Family Conquered Their Money Monster and Found an Inspired Happily Ever After.

November 3, 2009 By Cherie Lowe

Ever have one of those days when you really realize how really *good* life is?  For me, it’s so easy to be distracted by a number of circumstances, to do lists, and some of the really and truly hard bits of life that are legitimately sad and broken. The big picture gets blurry or it downright disappears. It’s like swimming in the dark – struggling to keep afloat even though you’re tired and you have no freaking clue where you’re going.

Last night, the King and I were chatting about the fact that we didn’t have a specific number when it came to how much we’d paid off in debt in the last 19.5 months. We had a rough guess but we hadn’t sat down in months to truly calculate what had flowed out of our pockets toward financial peace. So we added. and added. and added. And came up with a number that was (drum roll please) 10K more than what I thought we had paid off. How did that happen? Where did that money come from?

So the tally sits at $45K+ (will be $46K by the end of the week) currently. Seriously? So *good*, so, so, so *good*. Now before you get too excited for us, we still have one credit card left and a humdinger of a student loan (Sallie Mae owns everything in our house and then some). But I truly can tell you that I never would have anticipated that we would have come this far this fast.

Celebrate with me people and know that you can have this kind of joy, too. It takes intentionality. It takes sacrifice. It takes everything that you’ve got somedays. But it is more than worth it.

Congratulations! I wish more people would “buy in” to financial peace. They would be less stressed, more at peace with themselves and our country would not be in the mess it currently is in. Keep it up. Live like no one else so later you can live like no one else!

Many thanks Sir Todd. Our plan indeed is to live like no one else. I always joke that I look forward to the day when I’m “worthless” and owe nothing to no one!
