Why My Weekend was Awesome

Tips like these helped us pay off $127K in debt. You can read our story in Slaying the Debt Dragon: How One Family Conquered Their Money Monster and Found an Inspired Happily Ever After.

September 21, 2009 By Cherie Lowe

I particularly like this title because it reminds me of a 6th Grade Theme Paper.  And for some reason that makes me really happy today.  I’m not sure why, but it does.  Well, I’m not sure why I ever promise that I’ll blog over the weekend either when it just never seems to happen.  We had a busy and wonderful weekend.  So I present to you the many reasons why my weekend was awesome.

  • Saturday morning we went to my favorite local apple orchard where we bought apples as big as your head (ok, maybe not your head but definitely close to the size of the Youngest Princess’ head).  We hung out with one of our favorite family of friends, walked a trail, petted and fed a baby goat, listened to the birds, felt the warm sunshine, went down a giant slide, watched the kiddos ride the train and ponies, and basically had an ideal fall AM.
  • In the afternoon we did a little very necessary yard work, the girls rested, I ran some errands.
  • That evening, the King took the Eldest Princess to a super duper fun birthday party for a friend from school.  I believe there were Go-Karts and Bumper Boats involved.
  • Sunday AM, we did the church thing, launching another round of Starting Point, a conversation group that we lead a couple of times a year.  It was great.  Then I led my group of 3rd-5th grade girls who I always LOVE hanging out with and learning about.  We came home, had a little lunch, and then the King’s parents dropped by for a great visit.  Since both of our families live a couple of hours away, we treasure any visiting time that we get.  🙂
  • After his folks left, the King went into work for awhile.  He’s taking three days off during the month of October, so he’s feeling the need to get ahead (as much as that’s truly possible for his job).  I took the girls on a little outing to Meijer to get papers (for coupons, of course) and let the Eldest Princess rent a Redbox (didn’t have a code to make it free though BOOHOO).  She went with the Disney nature movie earth.  It was pretty interesting and beeee-yoot-iff-ful.  Although we both got a little uncomfortable with the whole animals need to eat other animals thing.  It’s the circle of life, blah, blah, blah but I still don’t like the the thought of polar bears trying to eat baby walruses.  And I get sadder when I think that the polar bear will die if he doesn’t eat the baby walrus.  And my circle of agony begins.
  • When we came home, I ran around in the rain with the girls.  We played on the swingset, went down the slide, and enjoyed the gentle drops.  We listened and were quiet.  We breathed deep the sweet scent.  We lived.
  • Then we came inside, had dinner, watched said movie, and ate ice cream.  Then the normal bedtime routines came into play – bath time, jammies, reading, etc.  The King came home and we caught one of our favorite shows on tv together (not sure why we get AMC as a part of the poverty package for our cable but we do and I’m not complaining).

It really wasn’t a remarkable weekend but it was relaxing and as titled, awesome.  I love the fall, I love my family, and most seconds of the day (minus dishes, laundry, housecleaning, etc.) I love life.  Hope your weekend was awesome, too.

I’m looking forward to many more great weekends this fall, Lady Joanne. We try to live in the moment as much as possible but don’t always do the best job. 🙂
