This seems like a fairly straight-forward, easy recipe but I have had folks ask me about it before so I thought I would share it with you today. I love to take this to folks as a meal when they’re in need of a little boost (i.e. have just had a baby or in a moment of crisis). It is very quick, easy, feeds quite a few and always has rave reviews. I’m bummed that I didn’t take pics the last time I made it to help show exactly what I mean. But hopefully my description is clear enough.
Hawaiian Bread Family Sandwich
Start with one of these, which I’ve bought before at Meijer, Walmart, and Kroger. You can find them near the Deli Meat Counter. Be sure to get the round loaf and not the individual buns.
Cut the bottom layer off (right near the ridge created by the pie pan). Lay this section back into the pie pan. Layer your favorite Deli Meats and Cheeses on the bottom slice. I like to use Turkey and Ham but have used Roast Beef and BBQ basted Chicken before. We usually use one white cheese and one yellow cheese, too. For instance, I used Provolone and Colby Jack the last time I made one.
Next, top with Romaine Lettuce or any other veggies that you like on a sandwich. You can also apply any sandwich condiments. When I take this to others, I leave it plain so that they can choose their own. I like to put a little light mayo and/or honey mustard on ours. However, it is also delightful plain because of the sweet, moist bread.
Next slice another layer of bread, removing the smaller top portion of things. Repeat layering meat, cheeses, veggies, and condiments. Then replace the top layer of bread. Now, slice the sandwich like a pie. You can put the entire thing back in the bag and place it in the fridge. It doesn’t get soggy, so you can store it over a day or two and have a great tasty sandwich in seconds.
This is best served with fresh cut veggies and/or BBQ chips. 🙂 It’s a great cool meal on a hot summer day and always has leftovers in our house.

I just made this for our family last week. YUM! We keep in pretty simple with turkey, ham and either american or swiss cheese. We add everything else individually since we are all so unique.
