What Do You Do Wednesday?

Tips like these helped us pay off $127K in debt. You can read our story in Slaying the Debt Dragon: How One Family Conquered Their Money Monster and Found an Inspired Happily Ever After.

May 20, 2009 By Cherie Lowe

I can’t believe that the eldest princess will be finished with 1st grade in a week and a day!  Where did the time go?  As the summer quickly approaches, I’m realizing that I have several doctor and dentist’s appointments, summer camps, meetings, and more to keep track of this summer, not to mention birthday parties, summer reading at the library, summer Bible studies, and graduation open houses.  I am afraid I’m going to forget something!  I use my iCal on my MAC pretty frequently but I don’t always remember to look at it.  I’m thinking about getting a large calendar to hang on my fridge.  I’ve used a desk calendar with magnets before but am not sure that what I want to do.  I definitely am not crafty enough to make something but am looking for some ideas on how to keep my dates straight.  What about you?  What do you do to keep your comings and goings on track?  Please give me some practical ideas and of course remember that I want to keep any purchases under $5 (less if possible!).

What I use is actually more expensive but very personable. I also have a Mac and use iPhoto to make a calendar. You can put pictures of people on the dates of their birthday. Everyone loves to see what picture I used from the year before on their birthdate. I also use different colored markers for each person in my family to put their “activities” on the calendar. Everyone has their own color. I have 4 kids 5 and under and I babysit for my 4 month old nephew 2-3 times a week. This system of just using different colors really helps me know who has what going on each day.

At back to school time Wal-Mart always has 8×10 yearly calendar with magnets on the back. I keep it on the fridge and do the same thing as Krista, everyone has there own color, so I just write what the activity is, where (if needed), and time. Keeps us organized. The calendars cost around $3. Then I have a small two year planner I carry in my purse with me all the time.

When my boys were younger, and we had lots going on, I purchased a dry erase board that had calendar markings on it. At the first of each month, I would record everything going on that month. Each family member had their own color, and one color for activities that involved the whole family.

Now I order my calendar here: flylady.net. It has squares large enough to record what is going on. Again, I use a different color for everyone, and the kids record their own events, so I know where they are going. Also, this calendar has a sturdy pouch in the back where I put important school papers, donation receipts, and things needed for our tax return.

I use a student calendar from mead, it starts in July and goes to December of the next year. I got it on sale for 6 dollars at the local Staples. Also, if you look in the Reach magazine that came out in the mail this week, there is a Rascal’s Fun Zone coupon for 40 game tokens for $5.00, which is good for up to 6 people. That is something to do on a Wednesday for 5 bucks! One more thing, (sorry, I’m excited) you can go to http://www.picturepeople.com and print a coupon for a FREE 8×10 or 10×13 for a fabulous and very frugal Father’s Day gift! ENJOY!!!
