Good morning Lords and Ladies! Wow, what a great weekend. We had our first “kid-free” weekend in over 18 months thanks to the Queen Mother and Queen Father. On Saturday AM the princesses were picked up and we hit the road later in the afternoon for MI. The King has a book entitled 1000 Places to See Before You Die and we wanted to be sure to hit at least one on this trip and we actually were able to see 2! Woohoo.
We stopped and ate an early dinner in Shipshewana, IN at the Blue Gate Restaurant in the heart of Northern IN’s Amish country. YUM, it was so good and we were able to split a meal and walk out stuffed. We also took some time to wander around the cute little town. Luckily for our wallets most of the stores were already closed for the day. We then ventured on toward MI. Every year, a large group of my friends from college get together for a weekend to hang out and catch up. It travels from state to state, with different friends hosting different years. This year, we went to Greenville, MI which is the birthplace of MEIJER! They have the cutest Meijer in the world there! It looks like a little city. We spent the evening chatting, taking a great walk around the lake, playing poker, and more. We went to bed WAAAY too late but still got up early enough in the AM to go to church here , which was awesome by the way. Then we spent more time with our friends before leaving in the late afternoon. On the way home, we hit another spot from the book, Saugatuck, MI and I will be going back people. That place was AWESOME. We took a walk along the boardwalk and had to drink coffee to stay warm even though it was so sunny out. The winds off of Lake MI kept things nice and cool. We had dinner at Hercules Hot Dogs (SO much more than a hot dog place) and I chowed down on an amazing ice cream cone. Even though I could have stayed there for days, we got back in the car and drove the rest of the way home in one shot (which got us home around 11:30 PM), breaking only to stretch our legs for a couple of seconds in Kokomo. We slept until 10:00 AM the next morning which I’m pretty sure hasn’t happened in 7 years. Then we did some wandering locally before driving down to pick up the princesses who I was so happy to see.
It was a great weekend but not I’ve got to get the train back on the tracks both here on QoF and in my house. There’s plenty to be done and expect a a lot of posts to trickle your way this week and I get you back to saving money and getting something for nothing. I hope you had a fantastic Memorial Day weekend, too! Share with me what you did here.
