Happy What Do You Do Wednesday! To Celebrate Earth Day, I thought it would be fun to talk about ways to save money by being more green. I’ve talked before about using natural cleaners – like vinegar and baking soda (here and here ). They’re both cheaper and better for the environment. I thought I would share some tips from my favorite magazine, All You , on how to save money and be a bit greener. If you are interested in getting a subscription to All You, simply click the button on the sidebar! It will be worth your while. You can get 2 years worth of issues for only $17.95. That’s ridunkulously cheap when you consider the magazine features around $50 worth of coupons every month. Seriously, do it now! 🙂 And buy one as a gift, too!
These tips are just a sampling of the tips in April’s edition of All You, pages 122-123:
Boil water in a flash. When cooking pasta, use a kettle to boil water, then transfer the water to the pot. The water will boil faster, so you’ll use less energy.
Freshen up your oven. Cleaning your oven probably isn’t tops on your to-do list, but once it’s done your food will cook more efficiently, which will save energy and money. If you own a self-cleaning oven, start the cleaning cycle right after you’ve cooked or baked to take advantage of the residual heat.
Keep water in the refrigerator. A less-than-full fridge has to work harder to stay cold than one that’s completely stocked. If some shelves are bare, stash a few glasses of water on them to help maintain efficiency.
Help you fridge keep its cool. Clean off the coils on the back of the fridge to increase energy efficiency.
What about you? What do you to do to be green and save green?

There are many things I do, but I always feel like I could do more to be a good steward. I have posted many crafts on my blog that use repurposed materials. I use natural cleaners that I make myself. These two ideas save me lots of money and are good for the environment. There are lots of other ways to “be green to save green”. I will have to check back to see what others have to say.

I always always always reuse aluminum foil and ziplock baggies. i wash thoroughly between each use but i try and get at least five uses out of each sheet and each baggie. I always recycle, but i feel like that should be a given at this point. Thanks for sharing your ideas! I was feeling extra frugal myself today and added some general money saving tips to my blog, http://feastonthecheap.wordpress.com
