For most of us, they’re a necessity. For others, they are a passion. While you can’t avoid not having them (especially if you want to enter a restaurant or a store), you don’t have to overspend on shoes. In fact, deals abound when it comes to shoe shopping. Smart strategies save more money so you buy more shoes (or something else you love). Here are seven smart ways to save money on shoes.
Store Rewards Programs
You know I love a good rewards program. Luckily if you’re a shoe-aholic, there are plenty of great options. Many of them offer special $10 coupons on your birthday, points to reward you for each dollar spent, and access to exclusive sales. Among my favorites include:
- DSW Rewards
- Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse
- Shoe Carnival Shoe Perks
- Famous Footwear
- Rack Room Rewards
- Kohl’s Yes 2 You
- JC Penney Rewards
If you’re not a member of these programs, join now to begin getting your coupons and making the most of each purchase you make.
Don’t Go Cheap
I know it sounds counter intuitive, but shoes are more of an investment than most products are. You should actually budget to spend a little bit more on a quality shoe than going with the bare bones cheapest option. Don’t misunderstand me. This is not a free pass to drop a bundle. Rather, you still need to be smart about what you purchase. Make sure you have a well made shoe that won’t fall apart or cause damage to your feet. Cheap shoes will cost you more than you realize in the long run.
Hit the Outlet
You can often find an awesome deal on shoes at an outlet mall. Be sure to to use the respective rewards programs when they apply, too. Know your sizes so you can quickly scan the offers and find the best deal.
Stick With the Same Shoe
Have a particular brand or model you know works for you? Pick up an extra pair when you find a great deal and put them in the back of the closet. This is especially true for tennis shoes which can easily wear out in a relatively quick time period. Look for Buy One, Get One or Buy One, Get One Half Off Deals and stock up. If you know the shoe lasts, you’ll save money and skip the guessing game, too.
Scour the Internet
If you know a particular brand and line of shoe that works for you, you’re going to want to scour the internet on a regular basis to see if you can find another pair at a better price. I’ve bought several pairs of shoes on Amazon for a fraction of the price! Groupon and zulily are also great places to look to find a deal.
Always Search for Coupons
Before you buy, it’s smart to search for coupon codes! It takes two seconds and over time could save you hundreds of dollars. It’s worth your time and effort to do a quick Internet search (I suggest Swagbucks so you can earn rewards to put toward your shoe purchase) at any store you’re shopping.
Repair or Repurpose
If you’ve invested in some fabulous and well made shoes, it might be in your best interest to have them resoled. Search for local repair shops to show your favorite pair some TLC. You can also consider dying shoes a new hue to give them an upgrade, too!
Being kind to your feet doesn’t equal being mean to your wallet. Smart shoe shopping strategies can save a bundle while keeping your toes and bank account happy!
