When the Queen of Free instructs people to actually spend money, they cock their heads to the side and stare in wonder. Don’t worry, it’s not opposite day. I actually do believe you should spend your money wisely and maybe not even buy the cheapest item on the shelf when it comes to certain items. Cheaper is not always better – especially if it means it will have to be replaced or worse cause some sort of damage. Here are five things you should always spend more money on:
Shoes: It’s been said, you don’t wear cheap shoes, cheap shoes wear you. Buying the least expensive pair might endanger your fashion sense but they could also lead to long term damage to your health. Be sure to select shoes with good support, for work or for play. You’ll be able to spend more productive hours in your day and enjoy your time off without having to rest your aching feet.
Paint: I may have convinced my husband once to buy the cheapest paint from our local superstore. The end result wasn’t good (let’s just say there was a vaporizer and paint drips on the ceiling involved). I don’t think that you need to buy top of the line, high dollar paint; however, cheaper paint more than likely will require more than one coat and an upgrade sooner than quality paint.
Professional Advice: Some people are experts for a reason. If you’re wading into an area of expertise where you have no experience, you should consult the wisdom of people who know far more than you do. Whether it’s tax or legal advice, or the practical know how of a good mechanic or plumber, it pays to spend a little more to keep expenses down the road at bay. DIY isn’t always the best.
Preventative Care: Avoiding the dentist, doctor, car maintenance, or household upkeep typically leads an expensive outcome. You truly can pay a penny now or a pound later (although we function on dollars here in the US). From oil changes to checkups, it’s a good idea to invest dollars in care of what you already have to ensure you won’t end up spending much more on something that could have been prevented.
Insurance: It’s not a question of if bad things will happen but when. Be sure that you have adequate coverage when it comes your health, home, automobile, and term life policies. I highly recommend finding a local independent insurance agent who can shop out several different companies to find you the absolute best rate. You might also find success and savings by bundling your coverage.
Hear me well. This is not an excuse to spend wildly or buy without doing your research. You always want to find a competitive deal, search for coupons, and the best place to purchase. However, more than likely you’ll want to bankroll a few extra dollars in the above categories to ensure your investment goes the distance.

Great list! I concur on good, quality paint. We have seen the difference.
