Tips like these helped us pay off $127K in debt. You can read our story in Slaying the Debt Dragon: How One Family Conquered Their Money Monster and Found an Inspired Happily Ever After.
This past Christmas, I had one of my best shopping experiences at Kohl’s to date. I ended up spending around $40 out of pocket on an order that was more than $100. Today, I’m rounding up all of the best ways to save money at Kohl’s in one post so you can become a money saving ninja there, too!
Coupons & Coupon Codes
There’s almost always a coupon or coupon code available for the physical or online store. Some can be found directly on Kohl’s site, others are mailed to you directly (I heart $10 off $10 coupons), others you can find on sites like Retail-Me-Not or Ebates. You can also get special 15% off discounts for signing up for e-mail and/or text (Text SAVE07 to 56457 or KOHLS) alerts. Promise me you’ll never shop there without a coupon, mmmkay?
Kohl’s Rewards
Kohl’s has a loyalty program called Yes 2 You Rewards. You get $5 back for every $100 you spend and special coupons and discounts, including a special one for your birthday. Be sure your information, including your mailing address is up to date on your account so you’ll receive more coupons via the snail mail.
Kohl’s Cash
Kohl’s regularly runs a promotion it calls Kohl’s cash which gives you $10 back in store credit for every $50 that you spend. This can be a great way to basically get an in-store deal. However, you have to be careful that you don’t overspend once you get Kohl’s cash. It can be a vicious cycle if you’re not careful.
Ebates
I love Ebates which is an online rebate shopping portal. Many stores participates and Kohl’s numbers among them. If you’re shopping online, you first go through Ebates – which will help you find any coupon codes you might not necessarily know about – and then you’ll get a percentage of your purchase back either in cash or Amazon gift cards. It probably won’t be a huge amount but every little bit helps. The rebate percentages change on big sale holidays – Black Friday, Labor Day, President’s Day – so you might get a varying amount back. Ebates also has a referral link perk which gives you a $5 kickback anytime someone else signs up and then makes their first purchase using their Ebates account (so yep those are referral links from me).
Kohl’s Rebates
Kohl’s has an area of their website where you can find manufacturer’s rebates for products sold in their stores and online. It’s always great to scan these when you’re making a larger purchase. Don’t forget that rebates are marketing tools. Companies count on you not submitting a rebate at all or forgetting to keep receipts or necessary information. So be sure you read carefully and then actually follow through with the rebate process.
Clearance
Oh how I love a good clearance sale! I’ve found some great deals on the Kohl’s racks over the years. As with any clearance strategy, don’t just jump on a sale at the first mark down. Kohl’s progresses all the way up to 80% off eventually so time your offers well and don’t buy unless you need it.
Shopkick
Once again, I LOVE Shopkick. Kohl’s participates in the program, offering coupons on the app as well as occasional “kicks” for walking into the store.
Kohl’s Cares
Don’t forget to glance at the Kohl’s Cares items when you enter the store. Often featuring classic books and well-made coordinating plush toys, these items are only $5 a piece. I always love to prowl the clearance online or in the physical toy section of the store to see if some of these items have been marked down even further. You can get a great gift for a birthday party or baby shower or just because for one of your kiddos!
