The world has gone mad with pumpkin spice yet again this year. I truly LOVE both the smell and flavor of true pumpkin pie spice. The fake-y stuff isn’t for me but I do live the autumn flavors with a little sugar. While eating just a bit is grand, the smell lingering is even better. So with the help of the Princess Eldest, I sat out to find a recipe for a Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub. She found one here (which was grand) and we tweaked it just a little bit. After it was made, she observed that everything was edible in the scrub and that it would taste delicious in granola which led me to put some in my Crockpot Pumpkin Steel Cut Oats this morning (another recipe for another, mmkay?) and it was DIVINE y’all. I could seriously eat it with a spoon. Which I would avoid if I were you because it ain’t calorie free.
Without further ado, here’s what you need.
Ingredients
2 c of brown sugar
1/2 c of granulated or raw sugar
1 t of cinnamon
1 t of pumpkin pie spice
1/2 t of nutmeg
1/2 c of coconut oil
- Combine the sugars and spices together in a bowl with a wooden spoon.
- Melt your coconut oil. I had a jar that had some clinging to the sides so on VERY low heat, I gradually warmed the whole thing. I’m guessing you could use a microwave but I don’t have (another story for another day) one so um, yeah.
- Gradually add the oil to the sugar mix and stir. It doesn’t need to be gloppy and you may need to use a bit more to get a damp texture (think moon sand).
- Store in an air tight container in your refrigerator for up to 8 weeks.
Side notes: if you plan on using it both for food and for use on your body, I’d suggest separate containers. That way, you won’t be dipping hands into something that you plan on eating. 🙂 I actually put a bit of this in my coffee this morning too and it was smashing.
There you have it. Something that tastes good and makes you look good, all probably with ingredients in your kitchen cabinets. Go be beautiful and smell like a PSL, y’all.
