Hi friends. Some of you might remember that I’m in the process of releasing my very first book. It’s been just over a year since I submitted my proposal to the Tyndale Momentum Publishing Contest hosted by re:write and less than a year since I won. What a crazy fun adventure we’ve been taken on as I went through the process of actually writing and editing the work and now we’re gearing up to begin encouraging people to pre-order.
In the coming months, I’m hoping to pause each Thursday to give you a Slaying the Debt Dragon update and loop you in on the process so you get a behind the scenes look at what I’ve been up to and learn ways you can help promote the book. You are my BEST publicist. You know our story. You walked with us. You’ve heard me speak. You’ve heard me whine. You’ve watched the video of us paying the final debt. You have traveled the road. You know who needs to hear a message of hope when it comes to finances.
One of the fun (and I’ll admit very frightening) parts of the process of finishing the book was garnering endorsements from other authors and from pastors. This basically required me to send e-mails to complete and total strangers that said a little something like this: “Hi. I know you don’t know me. I know you’re kind of a big deal. I also know you’re incredibly busy with your life, family, and passions. So by the way, will you sacrifice your time to read my book and then say nice things about me?” So maybe I was a little more personal than that, but you get the picture. It was a little bit scary to put myself (and the book, not to mention our story) on the line. Shockingly, some very kind people responded (a few didn’t and a couple did decline but they were nice about it). Today and next week, I thought I’d share a few of those endorsements and why they were important to me.
Long live the Queen of Free! Practical, witty and downright inspirational, Cherie’s debt-slaying book will lead you out of the dark pit of debt dragons to a place of hope and financial freedom with “been-there, don’t-do-that” wisdom.
— Craig and Amy Groeschel, Founders of LifeChurch.tv
I have listened to Craig Groeschel’s messages for YEARS on LifeChurch.tv. He has a way of teaching God’s truth that’s blatantly honest, creative, and still kind. I knew that he and his wife Amy had a passion for financial freedom and so I was knocked out when they agreed to endorse the book. Not only do they lead one of the largest churches in the US, their congregation created the YouVersion Bible App that you probably have on your phone. How awesome is that?
The tentacles of debt don’t just burrow into pocketbooks and bank accounts, they entangle our relationships, our attitudes, and our hearts. This fresh look at living debt-free once and for all is compelling, inspiring, and practical. You can’t afford not to buy this book.
— Margaret Feinberg, Author of Wonderstruck and Fight Back With Joy
Margaret is hands down, one of my favorite authors of all time. I first read her book Scouting the Divine: My Search for God in Wine, Wool, and Wild Honey
back in 2010 and fell in love with the way she writes with such artistry and passion. Through the wonder that is the internet, we became friends and I’ve been honored to guest blog on her site more than once. Last year, I went on a leadership trip where I hiked with Margaret in Maine. It was she that suggested I begin the path to writing a book. Her encouragement throughout the entire process was incredibly valuable. She’s a sounding board filled with wisdom and joy. To have her words endorsing my book is an incredibly high honor and joy.
Cherie Lowe’s incredible story of conquering her family’s debt dragon is inspiring, entertaining, and filled with hope. Through practical tips and her own personal battle tales, you’ll be reminded that financial freedom is indeed possible.
—Claire Diaz-Ortiz, Author and Silicon Valley innovator
I met Claire back in 2010 when we rode in the back of a van together to visit Dave Ramsey’s studios. I had NO idea that she was an employee of Twitter and since then has been named 100 Most Creative People in Business by Fast Company. Her resume speaks for itself but honestly Claire’s kindness and humility (and ability to confirm yes, we had randomly ridden together in a van) knock my socks off. I’m so thankful to have her words of approval.
If you’re not already, I’d love for you to be a member of the Slaying the Debt Dragon Group on Facebook where I’m sharing updates on where I’m at in the process on a regular basis.
Thanks for sharing this journey!
