I don’t know if you’re anything like me or not. When I don’t have inspiration, I lack the focus and intensity that I need to get anything accomplished. From a great read to an epic orchestral score, outside inspiration gives me fuel in my tank to get the job done.
In no other area is this more true than in my finances. I want great books to read. I want to hear speakers who challenge me and I want to look to websites that help me save money on a regular basis. If you’re looking for a bit of inspiration during the New Year, may I make a few suggestions?
- The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. This book launched our journey to paying off over $127K in debt in a little under four years. It’s not your average book about money. Sure there are concrete strategies that you can follow to get your finances in line. But there are also so, so many stories from other people who have followed the same plan and have had great success. Order it on Amazon or request it from your library. If you haven’t already read this book, this is your year to be inspired by it.
- Say Goodbye to Survival Mode by Crystal Paine. You might know Crystal by her online name – Money Saving Mom. After years of blogging and saving me money, I am so excited to read her latest book. Say Goodbye to Survival Mode: 9 Simple Strategies to Stress Less, Sleep More, and Restore Your Passion for Life releases this week on the 21st. You can get $125 worth of freebies when you pre-order the book, including all sorts of great resources to help you be more organized in 2014.
- Inspiration to Pay Off Debt: 30 Days of Encouragement from the Queen of Free. Each week on WTHR, I share my favorite money saving tips and practical day-to-day ideas for paying off debt and living life to the fullest. This eBook is simply what I would say to you if we could sit down at my kitchen table and share a cup of coffee together. I’d love the opportunity to remind you to keep your chip up and your chest out as you travel through your journeys with your finances. You can download the book from Amazon. Even if you don’t have a Kindle or an eReader, you can read the book using the free app on your phone, tablet, iPad, or even computer. Check out more details here.
- The Legacy Journey Live with Dave Ramsey & Rachel Cruz. Did you know that Dave Ramsey is heading to Indianapolis during the month of April? The one night event at Trader’s Point Christian Church was sold out for general admission, but last week a handful of tickets became available. There are a few left so if you are at all interested in an evening of inspiration and wisdom, you need to act quickly before they’re gone. PLUS, if you use the coupon code QUEENOFFREE when you check out, you’ll save $10 off the ticket price and the $4.99 processing fee is waived. That means your ticket would have been $43.99 but will be $29 instead. Find all of the details here.
- This month, I’ve been daily sharing a money saving or debt slaying tip in a series I’ve titled 31 Ways to Kick Debt in the Teeth. So far we have 18 ways for you to gain some traction with you finances as you begin a new year. Check out those posts here.
- Head to a local church or library. Many churches and libraries focus in on setting and achieving financial goals during the month of January. Yesterday, I spoke to close to 100 people at Bartholomew County Public Library, sharing my best coupon tips. On Tuesday, I’m headed to Hancock Public Library in Greenfield to talk about goal setting. We’re excited to share our story on February 2nd at Stones Crossing Church in Greenwood during both services as a part of their new series Financial Peace, which launches today. Get online and see what your local library or churches in your area have to offer today!
- Don’t forget to mark your calendar for September of 2014, too! My book Slaying the Debt Dragon will be released from Tyndale Momentum. I’m so excited to share some of my very best money saving tips along with our story of paying off a mammoth amount of debt.
