Summer is well under way for many Money Saving Lord sand Ladies in the Queendom. While it doesn’t officially begin until next week for Princess Eldest, I thought I’d do a round up of a number of Summer Reading Programs that are guaranteed to keep your little Princes and Princesses immersed in books during June, July and August . Plus, they promise a great number of freebies, too!
Public Libraries: For YEARS we have participated in our local library’s summer reading program. We’re always looking to maximize our hours. Did you know that many libraries offer programs for non-readers {you could read to your youngest Princes or Princesses and log hours for you both}? And summer reading isn’t just for the kids. Many libraries offer incentives to keep adults reading during the summer months, too.
Pottery Barn Reading Challenge: Kids can read from a list of suggested books, log hours, print a certificate, and then bring it into the store for a FREE book. This program is available to kids 10 & under, May 21st through August 26th. Throughout the year, Pottery Barn Kids offers a Reading Time on Tuesday mornings. Check your location for specific times. When they attend five times, they receive a special gift.
Barnes & Noble: Annually this book seller offers a summer reading program. Read any 8 books, log them in the Reading Journal, and then you can bring the completed journal into stores to choose a book from selected offerings {listed in the Reading Journal}. This program is available to kids in grades 1-6, May 21st through September 3rd.
Half-Priced Books: Kids 14 and under can participate in the Feed Your Brain Promotion. Track your minutes in a reading log. Once you hit 300 in a month, you qualify for $5 in HBP Bookworm Bucks. There are also prizes for kids who are the top readers in their age category every month, too! The program runs during the months of June and July.
Scholastic Books: Take the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge! Read, log your minutes, and enter to win great sweepstakes. This program is available for kids of all ages. All of the details can be found here.
TD Banks: Read only 10 books and add $10 to your TD Young Saver Account. Simply fill out this form and bring it to your branch. You must already have a Young Saver Account or open a new one and be 18 and under to participate in this campaign. The program runs May 6 – September 30.
Chuck E. Cheese: This kid favorite restaurant provides a number of great regular rewards programs including a Reading Rewards Calendar. Read every day for 2 weeks and get 10 FREE Tokens. Print your chart here.
Sylvan Book Adventure: Year round, students in grades K-8 can participate in this online program. Your child takes quizzes on the books he/she has read and gains points toward prizes like books, magazine subscriptions, tattoos, candy, CD’s, and games.
Johnny Rockets Reader Program: This restaurant has a program geared toward younger students and is available upon a location by location preference. Call your locale to see if they are participating this summer.

Don’t forget to sign up for Summer Reading too! Log your hours of reading in the sunshine and you could win great prizes. The fun’s not just for the kids, either. Many libraries offer summer reading programs for adults, too. Build your summer calendar around what your nearest branch has to offer.
