I’m very encouraged that the weather has begun to break a little in the Queendom . . . for now, I’m still working out inside, primarily using the Wii Fit, some step while watching TV, and occasionally a fitness DVD. I’m just not hardcore enough. SOON and hopefully very soon, the weather will warm enough to get back outside. That means plenty of wagon pulling and Jogging Strollering for me. HOORAY!
I’ve run 5Ks before (I’m more of a Cyclist than a runner) and am hoping to get back on track by running one by May. I’ve dropped some weight and begun to feel like I’m in shape enough to get back in shape at this point so running is lingering in the distant future for me.
Today I thought I’d share some 5K running plans to help you run a “5K by May” (sounds catchy, right?), too. Even if you’ve never run before, these plans will get you up and hopping!
- Sir Brian suggests you check out Cool Running’s “Couch to 5K” Running Plan. Basically they take you from the couch to running a 5K in about 2 months time by walking/running 3 times a week for 20-30 minutes. Sounds like a very accessible and wise approach.
- Lady Jessie on the Queen of Free Facebook Fan Page (Seriously, why aren’t you a fan yet? There are all kinds of wonderful tips thrown on on there on a daily basis) gave me a great link to Podrunner where you can download free music mixes that accompany similar 9 Week plans.
- Of course you know I LOVE Women’s Health and all of their free downloadable workout plans. They have a great Beginning Runner Plan here that’s filled with great workouts to do on your “off” days from running. A printable version of the plan is available here.
- Probably the absolute best Running Plans and information I found came from Runners World (shocker, I know). From a Smart Coach that helps you develop a plan based on your current fitness level, commitment and goals, to a 5K or 10K Training Area, to this great train for your first 5K in only 5 weeks plan. You have to have an account to access some of the info but it is FREE.
You don’t have to have a personal trainer or a running coach with all of the free resources available to you. You CAN get Buff on a Budget.
