Free Bracelet with a Catch

So one of the Queen’s favorite reads this summer was A Complaint Free World by Will Bowen.  Now, you’ve probably seen him on Oprah or a string of other morning shows a year or two ago.  The Queen often operates on a delay when it comes to such things.  Anyway, the premise of the book is this, a challenge to go 21 days without complaining, criticizing, or gossiping.  Let me start by saying from an authorial standpoint this is BRILLIANT.  No criticizing or complaining makes it difficult for anyone to critique the work without a huge lump of guilt forming in their throat.  Well played Mr. Bowen, well played.  I digress.  The author, a pastor from Kansas City, tried this little experiment out on his congregation.  He distributed purple bracelets that the participants would switch from arm to arm anytime they found themselves complaining, criticizing, or gossiping.  It takes the average complainer about 4-6 months to complete the 21 day challenging.

The Queen is a chronic complainer.  I know it, and I’m assuming all the people who surround me talk about it (at least that’s what my paranoia tells me).  So this work was very convicting.  I haven’t decided yet whether or not I’m taking the challenge.  I know that in the beginning I will fail miserably.  But the whole thing has me considering my words before they spill out of my mouth or onto the keyboard.  On the flipside, the book was a bit Oprah-esque for me.  Vibes . . . energy . . . the Universe . . . all a little warm fuzzy for my taste; however, I do admit that I believe that when you are positive, you attract positive people to you and when you’re not . . . well you know. 
So in honor of this summer’s read, you can go to A Complaint Free World’s website and get your own bracelet to try out this challenge for yourself.  I’m getting one and am going to give a shot if nothing else for a week (or a day if that’s all I can muster).  DON’T buy the book.  That goes against every fiber in the Queen’s body.  I’m returning it to the library today so you can check it out.  🙂  OR if you must go to Half.com and find a cheap copy of it for yourself.  Half is the place that the Queen buys and sells books herself.
UPDATE:  After writing this post, I checked the Complaint Free World’s website and you now must pay shipping.  It’s only $.75 for two bracelets but still too rich for my blood.  SO . . . I would suggest using a bracelet you already have or a rubber band and giving it a whirl.  And the whole world will get a freebie today . . . a complaint free freebie.  🙂
