Hear ye, hear ye, Money Saving Lords and Ladies! It’s Freedom Friday where I bi-weekly share our progress in becoming completely debt free. It’s also your turn to share your story of debt slaying. Whether you’ve paid off every cent you owe, are just getting started, or live somewhere in the in between, we want to hear from you! We’re better together, share your story and make us all stronger.
All week long, I’ve been reminded of people in my life who have reason to have no hope.
Those with physical illness.
Those struggling with grief.
Those in a state of depression.
Those with mounding debt.
Those who have deep hurt and conflict with their children.
Those who have deep hurt and conflict with their parents.
Those who feel lost and confused.
Those who are recently divorced.
Those who are holding on tightly to the fabric of their lives which seems to be steadily unraveling.
And yet in each of the above instances, I know that my friends are firmly gripping hope. In fact, I wonder if I’m doubting their situation more than they are.
This week, my heart has hurt for friends who are torn, for friends who are weary, for friends who are broken, for friends who are bereaved, for friends who feel betrayed, for friends who might feel even a glimmer of hopelessness.
Debt has a way of making you feel like there’s no way out. It tears at the very inner workings of your soul whispering its lies of defeatedness, restlessness, and even hopelessness. It controls you when you try to close your eyes at night. It consumes you when you’re doing the most basic tasks of your day. It bleeds into your relationships, your parenting, even your dreams sometimes.
But there is always hope.
We’re living proof. Seriously, if we can do this thing, you can too.
$96,819.20 paid off since April of 2008.
More to pay off. Better days to come.
Hope springs eternal.
