Tips like these helped us pay off $127K in debt. You can read our story in  Slaying the Debt Dragon: How One Family Conquered Their Money Monster and Found an Inspired Happily Ever After.

The big game, a family reunion, birthdays, and plain ‘ole gatherings with friends to celebrate life – sometimes life calls for a party. It’s very easy to get caught up in the merriment and overspend. Instead of waking up the next day with a belly and bank account full of regret, use these 5 money saving party tips to score big with your finances and friends.

Make Your Own Veggie Tray

It’s so tempting to grab the pre-made veggie tray as you zip through the store. But chopping your own veggies typically takes less than 15 minutes and can save you a bundle ($10 or more). Bonus: you don’t end up with an abundance of that one veggie that no one likes after the party is over.

Party Cut Pizza

Whether you choose to make your own from scratch, purchase one to bake from the deli, or order from your favorite shop, you should opt to cut your pizza in the party cut style. This means instead of the traditional triangle shaped slices, you cut it into small squares. Guests will be less likely to bite off more than they can chew and your pizza will stretch further. This especially rings true with the smallest of fans who rarely finish a full-sized piece.

FREE Printable Decor & Decor You Have

Don’t get carried away purchasing items that will be in the trash before the night is over. Head to Pinterest to find plenty of free printables (I LOVE these cute Super Bowl Commercial Bingo Cards!) to decorate and add fun to the party! I’m also totally printing these Denver Broncos coloring sheets for tonight. Have a football or any football paraphernalia in your house? Get it out and use it to decorate creatively, too.

No matter what you are celebrating these party money saving tips can help your bank account and score big!

Salt Your Drinks

Want to serve frosty cold beverages in a flash and use less ice in the process? Put ice, cold water, and salt together in a cooler and then add your bottled drinks. The salt water ice bath lowers the freezing point and allows you to chill drinks faster than a freezer would. Science is cool! Literally.

Pitch-In

Your friends and family LOVE you and want to help when you host a party. It’s more than OK to ask people to pitch-in and bring an item or two for the fun. Even if you just ask everyone to bring their own beverage of choice, you’ll be able to cut down on expenses. Stay away from assigning specific items and allow everyone to bring their A-game to the table busting out their favorite snacks and dishes!

How do you save big when it comes to super parties?! Leave a comment and let me know.
