Parents everywhere know what happens on Christmas morning. A small child wakes you at the crack of dawn. The gifts around the tree look so magical. Within minutes, you’re left with a heap of wrapping paper, (mostly) overjoyed kids, and hungry peeps. You need a plan and fast!
If you’re like me you don’t have the time or the budget to go to extremes. And most kids won’t go for the kale frittata recipe no matter how hard you try. These kid friendly Christmas breakfast ideas are for parents who want to add a little fun to the day without going bananas in the process.
Cereal Bar
There’s nothing wrong with cereal on Christmas morning. If you want, you can add a little holiday cheer to your bowl. Consider using a bit of food coloring to make the milk red or green. While you can choose to buy speciality cereals themed for this time of the year, you could also just opt for a plain rice cereal, too.
Other optional add-ins include holiday themed or plain marshmallows, sprinkles, granulated sugar, and even candy.
Fruit Candy Canes and Wreaths
Looking to keep things a bit more on the healthy side? Consider shaping cut strawberries and bananas into a candy cane. Or use apple slices or kiwi slices to create a Christmas wreath complete with blueberries to adorn it. You could even create a Christmas tree with grapes and berries. There are plenty of holiday fun options.
Snowman Pancakes
I’ve seen plenty of cute ideas out there for pancakes, but perhaps the easiest is making a snowman! Even if you’re not skilled with a spatula, you can still pull this one off. Make round pancakes of varying sizes and let kids build their own snowman. You can decorate his eyes with chocolate chips or blueberries. You can even use whipped cream as your own version of snow. Bonus points if your snowman has a bacon scarf!
Reindeer Oatmeal
Oatmeal is a staple in our house. For Christmas, a few quick pieces of fruit can turn this classic breakfast favorite into an adorable reindeer. Want to give his “fur” a brown tint? Add some peanut butter or a bit of brown sugar while combining the ingredients. Use cut strawberries and a couple of blueberries to pull the look together.
If you want to keep things a bit less complicated, consider using the cereal bar ideas above with oatmeal instead.
Christmas Tree Cinnamon Rolls
Rather than placing your cinnamon rolls in the pan in a traditional format, consider grouping them together to create a Christmas Tree. You can opt to make yours from scratch or buy store bought. You could even purchase already baked cinnamon rolls and rearrange them.
Decorate your tree with candies or granulated sugar. There are plenty of fun options.
Creating memories doesn’t have to cost a lot. You can make a kid friendly Christmas breakfast on a budget that your kids will talk about for years to come!
