Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Free Shipping Day, Giving Tuesday, and Green Monday have a new pre-Christmas friend = Cash Back Day. Haven’t heard of it? You’re not alone. This is the first year for the unofficial shopping holiday. I’m excited to share all you need to know Cash Back Day.
What Is It?
If it sounds like a made up holiday, that’s because online Cash Back site RetailMeNot indeed made it up. When you shop through their site, you’ll get up to 20% Cash Back online purchase at 100s online retailers.
When Is It?
The inaugural date is November 7th. Each year after, Cash Back Day will be on the first Thursday in November. The event lasts for 24 hours.
What Do You Need to Do
In order to snag the cash back for online purchases you’d already be making, you’ll need to sign up for a RetailMeNot account. When you sign up for anything, it’s smart to fully fill out your profile. I added favorite stores where I sometimes shop online. I was sure to amend the communication preferences so that I don’t get an email every hour of the day.
What Happens Next
On Cash Back Day, you’ll have 24 hours to snag up to 20% back on your purchases. Keep in mind, it’s *up to.* RetailMeNot also compiles all of the coupons on their site available for the online retailer. So you’ll find the best offers combined with the cash back option. If you end up making a purchase, you’ll receive cash back in your account about 45 days later. Those funds should appear in your linked PayPal Account Venmo account. If you have neither, you can also redeem your cash back in gift cards. You can actually access your funds earlier if you go the gift card route.
What to Look For
You should shop for what you need and any items on your Christmas list. It would be smart to prepare a list of potential purchases in advance. Think through upcoming holidays. Jot down sizes and favorites.
What to Avoid
This “holiday” was created with one purpose in mind – to entice you to spend. Now, if you have purchases you need to make already, that’s totally fine to take advantage of the cash back opportunity. But don’t get wrapped up in the rush and make purchases you can’t cover or don’t need. Items on sale are exciting, but if they put you in debt or clutter your home, they’re not necessary. Beyond that, they end up costing you much more than the sticker price.
Stay safe out there and make the most of those money saving opportunities, friends!
