Did Mother’s Day sneak up on you again this year? Have no fear. You can show mom plenty of love without breaking the bank. These last minute Mother’s Day gift ideas will show your gratitude and care and mom will be proud of just how little you spend.
1. Clean the House
Look, no matter how much you encourage her to do whatever she wants today, one fact remains. Tomorrow will be a hot mess. When mom takes one day off, laundry and dishes pile up and her regular tasks go unchecked. So while she relaxes, pick up the slack. Clean the toilet. Sweep the floor. Do the dusting. Take out the trash. You might even consider getting the groceries for the week and/or meal prepping. P.S. a clean house is on my wish list this year.
2. Do Some Yard Work
If the inside of the house is already spit spot, take your gifts of service outside. Even if it’s rainy you can probably squeeze in a few simple clean up tasks in the flower beds and yard. Pull weeds. Pick up trash. Instead of pricey cut flowers, buy some perennials that will bloom each year for her. Don’t forget to sweep the sidewalk and maybe even buy her a new doormat.
3. Nap Time
All moms deserve a nap today! Make space and create the perfect environment for her to get some extra zzzz. Some ideas to foster pleasant sleepy time include: put clean sheets on the bed and clean up the bedroom, get everyone out of the house so it’s quiet, buy her some comfy new PJs, purchase new bed pillows/pillow cases, buy a new sleep mask. Or get her a good book to read as she drifts off. In the end, most moms could fall asleep standing up. But do your best to go the extra mile.
4. Give Memories
Spend some time jotting down your favorite memories with mom. Or write her a letter. Maybe record a short video of yourself sharing those traits you treasure and love about her. You could even write individual memories on slips of paper, fold them, and then place them in a jar. Use fabric and ribbons to decorate if you’d like.
5. Detail the Car
The mom mobile gets more abuse than probably any other vehicle. Clean out her car and give it a good sweeping, from top to bottom. If the weather is decent, wash it too. Bonus points if you fill it up with gas and/or get an oil change, too.
6. Quality Time Doing Something She LOVES
Spend some QT with your mama this year, doing something she loves. Maybe she’d like you to go to church with her. Maybe she’d prefer time spent playing a game (she gets to choose). Whether it’s a long walk or the chance to watch a movie or TV show of her choosing, she gets to decide.
7. Fix All the Meals
Prepare and clean up after all the meals this year. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and anything in between, it’s your job to make a delish dish or two for her. Whether you choose to work your inner chef or simply pick up a carry out meal or take her out on the town, don’t let her fuss over a thing. As a side note, in our house every Mother’s Day each family member gets to choose a box of cereal and that’s what we all have for dinner.
These last minute Mother’s Day ideas just scratch the surface. No matter what you do this year to celebrate your mom this year, be sure to give a gift from the heart. It means more than you know!
