Three Things Thursday: Back to School Time

Tips like these helped us pay off $127K in debt. You can read our story in Slaying the Debt Dragon: How One Family Conquered Their Money Monster and Found an Inspired Happily Ever After.

July 29, 2010 By Cherie Lowe

Whether you want it to or not, it’s coming . . . soon the big ‘ole yella twinkies will be rolling down the road, filled to the brim with excited kids with new backpacks filled with school supplies.  It is VERY easy to get caught up in the excitement and bust your budget.  Paying for books alone can break the bank but this is the best time of the year to manage your finances well, plan ahead, and score a great deal.  So for Three Things Thursday, I thought I’d link three posts designed to help you save big when it comes to heading back to school.

  • A Queen of Free Classic, outlining some back to school begin here sort of tips to save you big $ in the long run.
  • 5 Tips and Tricks for Packing a Lunch Successfully.  Skip the lunchables and boxed juice.  Save big when it comes to packing the brown bag.
  • Lady Bargain Briana’s Top Money Saving Tips for Back to School.  She also has a great chart comparing all of the deals that will be updated weekly, too.
Be sure you follow along with the Royal Family this fall as we head back to school.  I’ll show you what we’re doing to save in the days before the Eldest Princess heads off to the third grade (We just paid $92+ for books yesterday.  YIKES.  I don’t even want to think what those of you with more than one kid of school age pay.  Lordwilling by the time the Youngest Princess hits K we’ll be debt free and feel less of a pinch on registration day.).
Also check out all of the great suggestions by Money Saving Lords and Ladies on Facebook today who have been chiming in with their best saving strategies.
