Bakeries & Delightful Desserts
While you’re in Indianapolis for MOMCon 2015, share a few moments with your girls (or even on your own) indulging in these sweet treats! The Circle City has a great variety of delicious destinations.
General American Donut Company (827 S East St, Indianapolis, IN, 46202): Located in Indianapolis’ Fountain Square District, this artisan donut shop serves handcrafted funky flavors. The Sprankle, a classic favorite, rocks our world. Stumptown Coffee and espresso is guaranteed to keep you wide awake even if you stayed up way too late chatting with your girlfriends. Order ahead for the whole crew and pick them up to bring back to the hotel. You can get a price break for a larger order.
Square Donuts (1 N Pennsylvania St. Indianapolis, IN 46204): Square Donuts holds a special place in my heart. I grew up on the oddly-shaped donut. You’ll want to visit the downtown location to grab a sweet treat or indulgent breakfast. Go classic and get the original (and maybe a second flavor just for fun).
The Flying Cupcake (423 Massachusetts Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46204): A quick drive (or Pacer’s bike ride or Wheel Fun Surrey for your entire crew) from the JW Marriott, you’ll find the most delightful destination in downtown Indianapolis. Each day, the Flying Cupcake’s Facebook page is updated with the day’s speciality flavors (be sure you’re looking at the Mass Ave location). They offer gluten free cupcakes, too! I’ve never tried a cupcake I didn’t love there.
Rocket 88 Doughnuts (874 Virginia Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46203): I promise that I don’t just I cruise around town doing nothing but eating donuts. However, my foodie friends raved so much about this unique menu that I had to check it out. They have vegan options, too! Again, you can order ahead, buy in bulk, and save a few bucks. The Peach Fritter is ah-mazing.
Shapiro’s (808 S Meridian Indianapolis, IN 46225): Indianapolis’ historic delicatessen features bagels, sandwiches, the most amazing cakes, and so much more. Dine for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Or pick up bagels to go to take back to the hotel.
Sub Zero Ice Cream (427 Massachusetts Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46204): If it’s not too chilly or even if it is and you have a sweet tooth, check out Sub Zero to watch ice cream form before your very eyes. After choosing your base – ice cream, custard, almond milk, yogurt – you can add specialty flavors and toppings and then see liquid nitrogen freeze your concoction into delicious.
South Bend Chocolate Company (30 Monument Circle Indianapolis, IN 46204): Located on the historic and lovely Monument Circle at the center of the city, this Chocolate Cafe has candies, ice cream, and yumminess galore. It’s gorgeous in the evenings when the buildings are lit and the circle is hopping.
Cafe Nonna (629 Virginia Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46203): Who wants gelato? Cafe Nonna actually has lunch options, too but the Italian gelato and sorbet will satisfy your sweet tooth. I’m longing to try out the Tiramisu, too.
