It’s hard to believe the kids will soon be heading back to the classroom. Now’s the time to get organized so that your mornings run as smoothly as possible. These 5 Back to School Breakfast Hacks will keep their bellies full and your crazy limited.
Frozen Pancakes
So sure, you could buy the pre-fab frozen pancakes from the store, but everything tastes a bit better when it’s homemade. But who has time to make pancakes on busy mornings? Instead on a weekend, make a large batch and freeze them either in freezer baggies or a reusable container. In the morning, pop them in the toaster or the oven and you’ll have a lumberjack breakfast ready, lickety-split.
Eggs in the Waffle Iron
This is my absolute favorite breakfast hack right now and it works in a matter of seconds. Pre-heat and spray your waffle iron with a non-stick spray (I love the ALDI Coconut Oil). While you’re waiting for the little light to turn green, scramble a couple of eggs in a cup or dish. Then pour into the iron and cook for about a minute with the lid closed (depending on the heat of your waffle maker). You can choose to add omelet like ingredients (veggies, cheese, breakfast meats) while cooking or in the middle of the hot eggs after you pull it from the waffle iron. So easy, so nutritious, so delicious!
Overnight Oats
Kick the cereal to the curb and have a yummy cool breakfast, customized with your favorite flavors. There are literally hundreds of Overnight Oat recipes where you layer oats, milk, and your favorite toppings into a jar, letting them soak for 8 hours. Check out Quakers’ round up of recipes that includes S’mores Overnight Oats, PBJ Overnight Oats, Peanut Butter Hazelnut Oats, and more. I also LOVE this collection of 50 Overnight Oat Recipes for Weight Loss (not that your kids need to lose weight but healthier options are always better) which includes Carrot Cake Protein Oatmeal, Blueberry Cashew Cream Overnight Oats, Gingerbread Chocolate Oats, and more!
Crockpot Breakfast
Did you know your breakfast could cook while you’re sleeping? My friend Cris at Recipes that Crock has some AMAZING breakfast crockpot recipes that will have you drooling as soon as your feet hit the floor. From protein power packed Cheesy Bacon Casserole to Cinnamon Roll French Toast – you can rock the crock and dazzle your family. Some recipes are designed to be prepared the morning of, and some can be cooked on low all night long.
Pre-Bagged Frozen Smoothies
Feel overwhelmed by choices but still want to eat healthfully? Why not chop and then pre-bag your frozen fruits and veggies for smoothies. When you’re ready to blend simply dump them into the blender along with any liquids you use. Your frozen fruits will add the chill with no ice necessary!
Don’t worry, going back to school doesn’t have to be stressful and you can feed your kid nutritious, affordable meals in the blink of an eye.
What hacks would you add? How do you make breakfast a snap on busy school mornings?
