Being in debt can be an incredibly isolating feeling. It seems like everyone else has their financial act together while you flounder and question how you got yourself into this mess.

Today, I had the opportunity to talk about how I felt about the process of paying off debt on the Family Life broadcast Inside Out with Martha Manikas-Foster. You can listen to the entire 15 minute podcast here. We cover a wide range of topics, including contentment and if frugality can turn into idolatry. I’d love for you take a couple of minutes to listen today if you can.

If you find yourself in that state of isolation and loneliness, take heart. I know for a fact there are plenty of other awesome debt slayers out there just like you. Do what you can to find a community. Comment on this post or join the Court of the Queen of Free on Facebook. Come clean with a trusted friend and ask for help. Seek counsel from your pastor or someone on a local church staff. See if you can find an Financial Peace University course.

When you’re tempted to feel guilty or shamed about having so much debt, be vulnerable and seek forgiveness. Remember conviction comes from God and ushers us toward change and reaching toward help. Shame and guilt paralyze, keeping us in the dark and isolated. Don’t believe the lie you’re all alone. The dark whispers that you can never conquer your debt continue to float in your head as long as you keep your current state to yourself. Reach out and ask for help.

Today.

We’re living proof that slaying debt is possible and that mammoth goal would never had been possible without our community. Start seeking out like minded travelers today. It will make the journey doable and more fun, too.
