To pay off debt, you have to believe it is actually possible. Gain the encouragement, inspiration, and tools you need to kick debt in the teeth this year.

Tips like these helped us pay off $127K in debt. You can read our story in  Slaying the Debt Dragon: How One Family Conquered Their Money Monster and Found an Inspired Happily Ever After.

Happy New Year! The ball has dropped, the merriment has passed, and perhaps today has been one of sobering up. Maybe you didn’t overdo it on holiday spirits, but if you’re like most of the population, your December = way too many calories and dollars spent. While there is never a “good” time to begin paying off debt, a new year and a blank sheet just might be the inspiration you need.

Enter 31 Ways to Kick Debt in the Teeth in 2014.

It’s my little Happy New Year gift to you. Each day in January, I’ll bring you a simple, concrete and easy to put in place tip to fuel your efforts to Save Money, Pay Off Debt, and Be Awesome this year. Looking for a quick plan? Well this might not to be the right place for you. Most things done well take time. But that doesn’t mean you can’t begin to implement systems in your life that will help you achieve your goals. I’ve said it many, many times before. Paying off debt isn’t complex. It’s just not easy. You have to punch the clock daily and do the hard work.

Day 1: Believe

But here’s what I know about you. You have what it takes to pay off debt. You’re smart enough. You’re skilled enough. And I know you can slay your own debt dragon. As an introduction to this series, can you promise me you’ll lean in close, listen, and hear that paying off debt isn’t:

Too hard.
Impossible.
Not worth it.
Out of your reach.

I’ve met so many people who have successfully paid off enormous sums (I mean way more than you owe, times three). Our own story involved us paying off over $127K in debt in 4 years. The common denominator for anyone who is successful in kicking debt in the teeth is that they believe that change is possible. They believe there is a way out. They believe that with Grace, they can overcome the oppression of debt and break its hold on their lives.

I’m guessing you might have clicked over to this series hoping for more concrete steps for debt elimination. You may have longed for money strategies and frugal living ideas. All of that is necessary and it will come (remember, we have 30 more days to go!). But, without this first step, you’ll never ever ever be successful in getting your finances in order.
