All too often, frugality gets a bad rap. We think of being frugal as depriving ourselves. We envision no fun, eating tasteless food, and watching the world roll by like a parade with all of the marchers living it up while we sit on the sidelines all by ourselves in a pool of tears. But the truth is, being frugal is a very good thing. It’s rich with meaning and contemplation. And if you do it right – with the right heart and the right reasons – it truly can be fun and enriching.
I asked the Money Saving Lords and Ladies in the Court of the Queen of Free on Facebook why they loved being frugal and their reasons were so wonderful, I wanted to spread the frugal love. Here are some of the reasons why we all think you should LOVE being frugal.
Frugal = less ‘stuff’ in my home. Less stuff = happier and free to focus on what really matters in life, my family and friends. – Lady Kerri
Knowing it won’t be an uphill battle forever. – Lady Sally
Contentment with what I have. – Lady Korinn
Watching the numbers on our savings account click up with extra money we saved by being thrifty. – Lady Magen
Knowing that I’m not “wasting” anything. I’m not perfect, but I try to never waste money, time, or resources. I’m not a hoarder, but I hate to send anything to the dump. Just about everything can be reused, reduced, or recycled. Just gives me peace knowing that I’m a good steward of what I’ve been given. – Lady Julie
While a great deal does give a good thrill, I love that I can afford to give my kids things I would not be able to otherwise. My husband and I are both disabled so we are on a limited fixed income, but I vowed that our children would never know that from their lives. – Lady Courtney
Being able to spend the extra money on fun things I really want (usually vacations~ we love to travel and getaway weekends). – Lady Heather
A few years ago, I wrote a manifesto for being frugal. Need a little more inspiration? Read We are the Frugal.
