We all love our moms. Where would we be without the women who have consistently loved us over time? This time of the year, we all long to celebrate mother’s day with gifts that show just how much we care. But flowers and cards, gifts and meals out can all equal a big price tag. I’m not saying you should cheat your mom out of a special day. I’m just betting she would be proud of you for making the most of your money and getting a great deal. Here are my favorite tips for affordable Mother’s day gifts!
Look for coupons
I’ve already received a $10/$10 coupon from JC Penney and typically Kohl’s mails one to their customers, too. You might be able to score something special without spending a dime. Keep your eyes peeled this week when sorting your mail. Or at least look online to find a coupon before you head out to shop. I personally love this coupon from Papa Murphy’s good only on May 8th for a large 2 topping pizza and 2 side dishes for $12. That’s a sweet deal!
Freebies!
Each year a number of restaurants and stores offer special deals just for moms! Maybe your little builder wants to construct a Flower Delivery Truck at a Lowe’s Build and Grow Workshop on May 10th or create a unique card at Pottery Barn Kids on May 5th. Feeling fancy? McCormick and Schmick’s is offering free chocolate covered strawberries to every mother who dines there on Mother’s Day. First Watch restaurants are offering a free box of chocolates. During the next week, both chain and local restaurants will be offering “Moms Eat Free” promotions. Do your research (and come back here) to see if your mom’s favorite is participating.
Gift Card Deals
If they aren’t offering a freebie for mom, many restaurants are instead luring you in with gift card deals. Buy a certain dollar amount gift card and you’ll receive an additional bonus gift card. I already found special Mother’s Day deals at Applebee’s, Bonefish Grill, Carrabbas, Chammps, Chili’s, and Ruby Tuesday’s. It’s certain that other restaurants will join the fray this week. Again, keep your eyes peeled (and come back here to check for more).
Gifts Made with Love
Nothing warms a mom’s heart more than a gift made by her little sweetie. Whether it’s a hand written note or a special project, your mom still loves your art work. Last year, we took a few minutes to scan in our mom’s mom’s recipe cards. We printed them out so they were big enough to frame and then purchased a nice frame. It was a great way to celebrate the matriarchs in our family. I even made a few for myself to put in my kitchen. Having my grandmothers’ handwriting on display is a gentle reminder of their love for me, too. Keep your projects simple and filled with thought and you’re sure to knock your mom’s socks off.
The best Mother’s Day gifts come from your heart. When you share memories and gratitude with your mom, she’ll feel like a million bucks. But take a moment or two to bless her with something special, too. Don’t forget to tell her how much you saved. Then, she’ll know she raised you well!
