My gratitude for the farming community runs deep. I grew up in rural southern Indiana where the majority of my classmates in school either lived on farms or they helped on their extended family’s farm. Each fall, I looked out the window of my second story bedroom to see a combine rolling down my driveway to begin harvesting. This will cause you to remember to close the blinds, Lords and Ladies. Some of the most generous people I know are farmers.
In the last 3 years, I’ve had the opportunity to learn even more about agriculture in Indiana through the Indiana Family of Farmers. I’ve toured farms, been on insider’s tours of the State Fair, and attended workshops. Last year, I attended Indiana Ag Day 2013 and even hung out with the governor. What up, M. Pence?
I’m excited to return again, along with several blogging buddies, next week for Ag Day 2014: From Fields to Food Trucks because #FarmsMatter. you can attend, too. On my list of must-dos while I’m there? Hear Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann speak. Give the Colts’ Blue a hug. And fill my empty tummy with the delicious goodness from the food trucks outside the Statehouse.
Indiana Ag Day 2014 will take place from 11 am to 1:30 pm and offers you the chance to become more informed about all farming does to enrich our communities and state. I hope to see you there!
