Annually, many movie theaters offer what they commonly refer to as “Summer Movie Camps.” During weekly scheduled times, you can catch a kids’ movie {typically rated G or PG} for either FREE or a fraction of the price. These special offerings are typically last year’s blockbusters {or sometimes a movie classic}. Many times, there will also be specials on snacks, too. It’s a good idea to arrive early to the viewing, as many times summer day camps bring their campers to join in the fun. You don’t want to miss out on a good seat {or a seat at all}. While the programs vary state to state and even city to city, here’s a roundup of the national promotions I was able to find. Cinemark Summer Movie Clubhouse: Purchase a pass to get 10 movies for the low price of $5 {or you can pay $1 for each if you only want to go to 1 or 2}. The only central Indiana location participating is Cinemark Movies 8 on the Southside of Indianapolis. The special movies are Wednesdays at 10 AM for that particular theater and are listed here {there’s also a $1 off Movie Snack Pack Coupon on it!}. For a full listing of locations participating and their times, films, and days of the week, check out this link. Regal Summer Movie Express: On Tuesdays and Wednesdays for nine weeks, you can catch a great line up of movies for only $1. Showings begin at 10 am. Regal Village Park Stadium 17 in Carmel is the only central Indiana location participating in this promotion. Proceeds benefit Will Rogers Institute. For participating theaters, go here. AMC: Nationwide, AMC has discontinued their summer movie camp. However, I found evidences that city by city some theaters have found other sponsors and are participating. Feel free to call your location and see if they’re offering anything similar. Goodrich Quality Theaters: You can see a $1 film Monday – Friday at for 9 weeks at 10 AM at participating locations. In Central Indiana, check out the line up for Hamilton Town Center 16 IMAX. Rave Cinemas: Rave was purchased last week by Cinemark. I’d wait a week or two to see if they will continue their summer movie program or not. Garfield Park Arts Center: On the Southside of Indianapolis, head to Garfield Park Arts Center on the first Friday of the month for Bike-IN Movie nights. The films are classics from my childhood including The Goonies {June 7}, A Christmas Story {July 5}, Spaceballs {August 2}, Ghostbusters {September 6}. Movies begin around 9 pm {at dusk} and Food Trucks will be on hand and the movies are completely FREE thanks to Indy Parks & Rec. You are encouraged to ride your bikes, too {although come now, isn’t that a little bit late to be riding home?}. Canary Creek Cinemas: In Franklin, IN, you can catch a FREE flick on Wednesday AMs at 10. Doors open at 9:30. For full listing of films, check out this link. City Parks & Libraries: Check your local city parks and libraries to see if they’re offering any special FREE movie nights {some are outdoor}. I quickly found ones in Greenwood, Carmel Clay Parks, Fishers Parks, & Indianapolis Public Library {I’m sure there are many more! Please leave them in the comments}. Non-Indiana Theaters: Showcase Cinemas Bookworm Wednesdays: Sigh, there are no Showcase locations in Indiana, however, kids who complete a book report {with special exceptions for kids under 6}, qualify for a FREE movie on Wednesdays July 10 – August 7 at 10 am. For participating theaters, films, and specifics, go here. Marquee Cinemas: Dates and films vary by location but you can find your closest theater here. The movies are absolutely FREE. Muvico Theaters: FREE films Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday at 10 AM, June 11 0 August 15 at all Muvico locations. The list of movies can be found here.

[…] Summer Movie Programs: Some theaters offer Summer Movie “Camp” where on a weekday morning, you can catch a flick for free or at a low cost. Typically the movies are rated G or PG and are blockbusters from the previous year. Again, check out this post from earlier this week outlining each of the Summer Movie Camps I’ve found in the greater Indianapolis area. Many of these special offerings also include snack deals that won’t have you cashing in your 401K just to buy some popcorn. From free movies in the park to $1 or even $0.50 deals, you can find them all in Summer 2013 FREE & Cheap Movie Round Up! […]

So disappointed that none of the westside theaters were participating…
