So over the past couple of years, I’ve been working on a list of goals. 40 Goals to set out to achieve {or at least put the plans in action to achieve} over the next five or so years before I turn 40. Yesterday, after a little soul searching, I sat down and completed my list. In no particular order, they are as follows:
- Run a Marathon. I’d love for it to be this one. But I’d settle for this one {but not this year}.
- Learn to Swing Dance. Of course, I’ll need the King of Free’s help on this one.
- Have a full Spa Day with the Queen Mum.
- Learn to Record Scratch. Believe it or not, I have someone who can teach me.
- Take a Surfing Lesson.
- Drive a convertible through Wine Country in California.
- Be Debt Free {except the mortgage but hopefully close to it being gone, too}.
- Run in Central park {for fun, not from someone}.
- See A Prairie Home Companion at the Fitzgerald Theatre in St. Paul, MN {I actually saw a live production at the Indiana State Fair a few years back but I’d like to go to the theater and take it in there}.
- See the Grand Canyon.
- Take the girls to the ocean and build a sand castle. They’ve never been and I haven’t been in decades.
- Read Jane Eyre. I love the Bronte sisters. I can’t believe I haven’t read it yet.
- Read Catcher in the Rye. I’ve always been intrigued by banned books and recluse authors.
- Hike a mountainous trail. Ever since I watched this movie at the IMAX, I’ve not wanted to scale a full on mountain. YIKES. But I would like to hit the trail in a literal sense.
- Complete the RAIN ride again. {RAIN = Ride Across Indiana, a 160 mile, one day bike ride. I did it in 2007 [rare side note, I was pregnant at the time but didn’t know]. I rode only 130 miles in 2010 and only 115 in 2011 due sickness/injury both years.}
- Read the complete Narnia Series to the girls.
- Be in the crowd for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Have watched it every year on TV, longing to be there. Not sure what it would mean for Thanksgiving or my Black Friday tradition but I’m willing to sacrifice.
- Eat at one of Rick Bayless’ restaurants in Chicago. I’ve been to Frontera {Rick was in the kitchen cooking and sat a table away from us} and wouldn’t mind returning or going to Topolobampo instead. Seriously the most heavenly food I have ever consumed.
- Take the Eldest Princess to the National Museum of American History {my favorite Smithsonian} and spend the entire day there.
- Watch the sunrise over the ocean.
- Renew wedding vows with the King of Free.
- Learn to knit {just a scarf, nothing fancy}.
- Take guitar lessons.
- Write a magazine article.
- Keynote at a conference {big or small}.
- Take the girls westward on a vacation, probably following a similar path that my family did when I was in 5th grade.
- Go white river rafting again {done for the first time when I was in 5th grade}.
- Begin writing a book. {lofty, I know}
- Re-design and re-brand my blog. I’ve needed to do this is a long time but haven’t wanted to cough up the cash.
- Have family photos taken. And not of the Sears or snapshot variety. Some of those really cool artsy, pictures of our feet, and the King of Free dipping me in some Indianapolis ally way sort of amazing pictures. I have someone in mind.
- Really decorate our home. I don’t want to drop a wad of cash but the hodge podge that I have right now isn’t doing it for me. I’m going to need help on this one. Volunteers?
- Use my social media skills to help a non-profit get off of their feet.
- Go to a Cubs Game at Wrigley Field with the King of Free.
- Watch the sun set in the mountains.
- Go to Boston in the fall. I’ve never been.
- Write thank you notes to significant teachers and educators over the years.
- Write thank you notes to significant friends from over the years.
- Throw a slammin’ party/soiree/biblical proportion celebration when we are debt free. You are cordially invited in ~ 7.5 months.
- Learn to podcast and vlog.
- Country Line Dance at a honky tonk in Nashville.
Let the adventure begin!
Got a list?
The King of Free does.
What would you do? Where would you go? Why aren’t you on a path to get there?
No one trains for a marathon by sitting on the couch.
