Today’s debt slaying tips come from some inspiration first received at Blissdom via this author/book and then further developed in my life over the last few weeks in my own personal journey.
Day 27: Ignore Trolls
Of course Gnomes are much more friendly than trolls. |
I suppose when most people think about trolls, they think of a mythical creature holding the gates of the bridge closed until you pay a toll.
If you grew up in the 1980s/1990s, you might think of this when you hear the word troll:
Had to go with the redhead. |
But trolls take a much more deceptive form in your day to day life.
Trolls can look like men or women.
Trolls can be young or old.
Trolls often tell you they have your best interests at heart.
But bottom line, trolls are filled with negativity. For you, for themselves, for the world, for your neighbors, for you friends, for the country, for the the city, for the state, for new things, for old things, for just about everything.
We hear many positive messages everyday, that we quickly and easily forget.
“I love you.”
“Thank you.”
“You look great.”
“Way to go!”
“You can do it.”
Beautiful words of wisdom and challenging words of inspiration are easily forgotten, too.
“Greater love has no man than this, that He would lay down his life for another.”
“If you can dream it, you can become it.”
“Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
“Life is good.”
But what is it about a negative message – the words of a troll – that we hold on to them for
days . . .
weeks . . .
months . . .
years . . .
decades . . .
I am most guilty of all of allowing a troll to control my view of the world or even myself.
And when you’re paying off debt, you encounter a lot of questions.
How?
Why?
Huh?
Do you really think you can do it?
Well why would you wan to do that?
And you encounter a lot of opinions.
Everyone has student loan debt.
You can’t live without credit cards.
You have to have debt to get the things you need in life.
We have to have a vacation.
Debt doesn’t matter.
These are troll words. And they must be ignored. Remember, their journey is not your journey. Because if you let the words into your ears, troll fingers will begin to sneak their way into your finances.
And if we learned anything from fairy tales at all, trolls want your money.
Don’t let them “steal” your money or your joy.
Ignore the trolls.
